Ten Character minimum

I just tried to post a reply to a thread here. It was a yes/no question and I wanted to answer it. But the field wouldn't let me and gave me a "10 character minimum" error. 

Is this a new policy here? Because I totally remember giving one word responses before, some even no words and just a picture. And yes, my post is a yes/no question.

Don't know exactly what's going on with that, but why not expand your answer so that it meets that minimum? 

"Yes, you do have to pay first before the seller ships your item."

There has been a minimum for a while.  I first notice it when I wanted to just post a screen shot.  System would not allow it without some characters.

Yea, I was going to. But then I thought someone might think that I was typing an ellipsis and indicating an incomplete thought. So I went with underscores.

Tags and quotes don't count toward the minimum either.

It's annoying when the limit is (I assume) intended to combat spam or bots, but prevents you from typing valid short responses.

You could quote the question you're answering with copy/paste and quotation marks then type yes/no below that.

You could type yes/no then enter 2 line breaks then add dots or dashes to avoid the appearance of using an ellipses.

You could type a longer response. As opposed to, "Yes," you could type, "Yes, the 10 char min is very annoying," essentially repeating the question you're answering (like you have to do for a talking heads video interview).

But I'm sure you know this stuff already @iamalwaysright . I'm replying less to answer your question and more to agree with you about how annoying it is to work around the 10 char min.

I think the motivation is to prevent new users from trying to write an essay in the message title while leaving the body empty. In the past such posts appeared with the title cut off after a few characters, leaving little clue as to what the poster was actually after.

It is annoying, though.
