I was a moderator of a private eBay group that disbanded around 2011. I’ve kept the group bookmarked and refer to our discussion threads from time to time as it was a wealth of information. Today I tried to use the bookmark but my access was denied. Does anyone know if private groups still exist in the eBay community or are they gone for good? We had over 400 members from around the world and I’d love to get the membership list printed.
Thanks for your help.

doug@ebay wrote:@*coins the new groups are still in development at Lithium, but we're excited about the new functionality previews we've see. They should have many more options than they do now. We've also been talking about looking at the navigation and improving group's visibility and navigation.

Can you tell us what you will be changing?
It would be cool if you could put some of the boards that got changed into groups in a better spot because they are hard to get to as they are buried. I think some people would really enjoy reading and posting to some of them if they weren't so hard to get to. Just my two cents.
Ok, I'm excited to see what will happen. 🙂

not to hijack the thread......but is there a possibility the bell notification for sales might work again?

@dhbookds we are testing a new header in our staging environment. The full eBay header has a JavaScript conflict with some of the Community JavaScript. They used to play together fine, now they don't. So if we have certain JavaScript in the header, there are Community function issues. If we don't have the JavaScript, there are a couple of header issues like the notifications bell and the category dropdowns. So we're experimenting with a new header and if that works, it will launch soon.

@yogiw I'll look into this and keep you updated, thanks. We can look into it but would like to see traffic and interaction.

Doug,
Several of the members have contacted me about the group and said they'd like to get back in it too. I can't promise how much traffic or interaction there will be but we'd love to have it open again. It was a valuable resource to us collectors. Too much information to print out every thread.
Thanks for your help.

Two things happen when a thread is hijacked:
1. The people reading about the original topic have their train of thought interrupted as they read the "hijacking" post and then maybe another post or two about the original topic and then run across the answer to that "hijacking" post, along with any further posts back and forth about the second topic, intertwined with the first topic. Before you know it, you can have two topics running parallel in the same thread, which gets very convoluted for the rest of us to follow.
2. Anyone with the same concern about the notification bell cannot find this thread, because the title has nothing to do with notification bells. So the post and its answer, which may be of interest to others, is of little use to anyone else because the topic is buried in this thread.
Your question was certainly legitimate and kudos for asking it (and to Doug for answering it); however, I feel you should have started another thread rather than post in this one. Maybe you could start a new thread on the appropriate board (the Selling board or the Technical Issues board or wherever) and copy/paste your question and Doug's answer there?
Just my two cents.

If/when you get it back, maybe you could start copying and pasting the posts into word documents and then save them like that just to you won't lose them again in the future. 🙂

Or use the Wayback Machine. Or work a little "Save As" magic.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I have done this with several of the threads already. Had I known our group would disappear I could have been more prepared. As moderator, I received no notification or warning that our group wouldn’t be there to reference.
