Greetings all on this awesome Turkey day. Surprised I'm actually writing this right now on Turkey day, apologies. My 2nd post here ever since I've been an Ebay memeber.
But I got an alert after posting my 1st ever message here in the Community?
I've been on ebay since September 2001. Well actually since 1999 but created a new username that matched my artwork name sorta. NE how...the "badge" says congratulations on 5 yrs as a member?
Can someone point out how this is measured? Is it referencing this message board community system or community registration.....or?
Thanx in advance and Happy Thanksgiving Day to you all!

Hi @xxartxx
Your Community "account" is based on when you created the ID here, it shows 2017 not when your eBay account was created way back when (2001). You only have 2 posts here on The Community.
Not sure exactly when their calendar runs for the badges but suffice it to say, I have not checked anyone's badges in over 6 months until your post here about it.

The Anniversary badges are based the date when you registered to use the Community Forum. You can change you User ID on eBay and it will change in the Community also.

Strange stuff. Ya been here (boards) since Nov 2017.
Just made your 1st posts (as far as we can see) so that may have triggered the badge, but that 3-17-2023 is just confusing. It isn't 5 years form 2017
ETA my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th badges correspond date wise to the joining date.
ETA again. My 1st post was made the day after joining the community. Was not a lurker. (not that there is anything wrong with that) Started hitting the keyboard right away. I had shut down for the expected seasonal delays.

I was curious about that too but my first year anniversary badge is a slightly different date than the rest of them. It looks like I am now on a regular anniversary date ... I suspect the OP will see a similar discrepancy. My 10th year will be next year although this ID has been on eBay since 2007.

The anniversary badges theoretically date from when you first joined the discussion boards. But about half of my badges, including the first 5 anniversary badges, are all dated 11-02-2016 even though I joined on 10-09-2008.

On my selling ID the 1st anniversary date is the day that I made my 1st post......... a reply.
Note that the 1st - 5th were all earned on the same date.
My 10th was earned before my 5th, and my 15th picks up an alternate date.
On that ID I had apparently somehow been in the "community" without even knowing it existed🤣
15th less than 2 years after 10th🤔

Says "community member" since 6-6-2003 (buying/selling before that) so the 15 + is accurate as that was 15 years and 8 days.
No idea where the 10th date links from.

I think I'm getting Anniversary Badges in dog years or something. I don't think I even onboarded 'til 12/30/16, but...
- 1st on 12/30/16
- 2nd on 6/29/17
- 3rd on 3/24/18
- 4th on 3/05/19
- 5th on 3/01/20
Heck, at this rate, I'll hit my 10th Anniversary next year. Early next year. 🤣
ETA: I just found this on my page "Community Member since 03-01-2015", @buyselljack2016. Maybe they're paying me retroactively (for the miscalculation) since my 1st Anniversary should have fallen on 03/01/16. 🤣

mine is the same way. But, when we were here in 2008, it was called the Answer Center and was run by Lithium. I had a lot of posts there, but the badging doesn’t start until 2016. I suspect that’s when Khoros took over and started the new Community.

Lithium, AKA Khoros, took over in 2013. But the badges were not part of the Lithium system until a couple of years after Lithium took over, probably in 2016.
When eBay was planning on switching over to Lithium for managing the Community in 2013, the community director, Jeff Terrell, convened a focus group of board users in San Jose to discuss the various board features and options. The notion of badges was mocked and discarded. But one of his successors thought they were cute and picked them up even though none of the actual board users wanted them.

Interesting ... wonder if the date changes get out of synch when they do a major update.
