variations in a listing

I am trying to do a listing with variations of color and size for the FIRST TIME.  It is a clothing listing and size and color were the two attributes that were showing when I first got into a listing.  I went in and out of the listing trying to figure it out.  Now I believe I understand how to add attributes and the sizes and colors, but now two other attributes show up (Fabric type and another one I can't remember) and when I try to add "Size" it says it is not a variation of this product.  Yes, it is!!  I have XS, S, M, L, XL, and XXL but it won't let me add sizes.  It also let me add colors and I did this with no problem, but still can't add sizes.  What gives??

Re: variations in a listing

I rarely use variations so can't explain how but an ebay user did set up a page explaining how to do it. Her version  might be helpful.

When you first create the listing - sometimes the item specifics populates the size field initially - is anything in that field?

Also, sometimes on variations, I have saved as a "draft" and then went back to "edit" the draft and could add fields that I could not add previously.

I have the shipscript link saved also that @pjcdn2005 shared as I do not do these often enough to remember exactly how to get it done.

I also have this link to a video that I have watched several times that walked me thru it.

Re: variations in a listing

Variations listings are a total PITA until you get used to setting them up. The first ten or so I did took FOREVER to get it right.

You should be able to remove the variants that you do not want. Try doing that first and see if you can then add the size.

As a last resort - try starting entirely over with a fresh listing and see if you can get the variants that you want to show up.

Re: variations in a listing

Just a question, how many do you have to sell & is this a regular thing?

The reason I ask is that I've only used Variations a few times & I agree with @glgenterprise  that it is really a pita.  If this is a one-off situation or you only have a few variations, you might just want to list each variation separately with a quantity.   That's what I finally did b/c I only have variations a few times a year.  Of course, if it's a common or you have hundreds, you'll have to muddle through.

Re: variations in a listing

I use variations quite a bit and they are time consuming to set up but worth it. I recall it blocking certain attributes when they were common place. I just created my own attribute with a synonym of what wasn't working. In your case, instead of size, use "SIZES" or "CHOICES" or "S/M/L".  Then you should be free to list how you like.

Re: variations in a listing

@woodmaster2011

Depending on your category, there are some Item Specific headings that can not be used to create a variation Attribute or grouping. You may be shown some previously popular selections when you start to create a variation Attribute or group, but they may not all be valid selections if they are reserved for the Item Specifics, so you may need to make up your own names.

For instance, Color is a problem in some categories where it is a reserved name for an Item Specific, so Colors would be the recommended change for your variations. If Size is reserved, then Sizes might work as a variation Attribute.

Re: variations in a listing

I've had that happen before.

Thy this...

If it wont take "SIZE" try using something similar like "-SIZE-" or "...SIZE..." or "_SIZE_".

That should work.
