unwarranted negative feedback

I sell children's books. I described the six books in the condition area and again, with very detailed information about the writing in the books in the item description. There was no contact with me, the buyer just immediately gave negative feedback "books were written in" Please advise: What do I do? My consistent 100% went down to 97.6 Thank you for any ideas, Pat

That's an great way to describe it!   LOL ... I think the same way when writing a description, but my thoughts aren't quite as 'flowery' .. I generally stop at 'mean-spirited.'    But an excellent analysis!

LOL!  You are too kind.

Unfortunately I had to work in a professional environment for 40 years; the experience left some indelible impressions on me!  😂

You should have shown the writing with more pictures.

Why not contact the buyer since you offer free returns.

Buyers are under no obligation to contact a seller before leaving feedback.

Your listing shows the following:

Books are in excellent condition, nearly like new. Some have a name or inscription from grandparents

Then in the detailed description...

Santa's Book of Names by David McPhail, like new
llama llama holiday drama by Anna Dewdney, like new
Clifford's Christmas by Norman Bridwell, nearly like new, name erased
Night Before the The Night Before Christmas by Natasha Wing, teacher sticker
Santa's Favorite Story by Hisako Aoki and Ivan Gantschev, like new with grandma/grandpa inscription
Santa's New Suit by Laura Rader, like new with mamaw/papaw inscription

I would have shown pictures of all this as well. We get 24 pictures with each listing, so it would have been a good idea to take advantage of that option.

But I'm sorry this happened to you. Did the buyer open a return?

A listing with 2 pictures and a description stating, "Some used children's books can show light use by children"  doesn't describe WRITING in books! Books that have scribbles, notes, pictures, etc. would not be considered "light use."

I understand the buyer's disappointment however I would have preferred it if the buyer just opened a "not as described" return request.

I agree with Janet, you should have mentioned the writing and shown pictures of it.  The negative feedback may very well be deserved.  That being said, I would contact the buyer and state, "I'm sorry you're disappointed with your purchase.  Please return for refund."  And as a response to the feedback, mention "Return and refund offered."  Just so thst potential buyers know you stand behind your items.

Don't fret too much, your feedback score will recover!

Hello, and thank you for your response.  Would you mind checking again and reading the description which details exactly what is written. It is mentioned in the condition and again in the description. . No writing or scribbling,  just inscriptions inside front cover.  I have discovered that many/most people don't read......sigh....So sad when I have 25 pages of 100% feedback and this unwarranted one lowers to 97.6

Thank you for responding. If she would have let me know, I would have refunded her entire order of $9.99

You have a 30 day return policy with you as the seller pays for shipping so I would appeal the negative feedback with Ebay and advise the buyer to return the books for a full refund. If a buyer is that unhappy to the point of leaving a negative feedback they should have filed a return case. Next time make sure you disclose any writing or damage in books. It has to be perfectly clear to a buyer of any flaws.

When there are defects, you need to show them in the photos.

Have a great day.

Remember that you are dealing with the general public -- which means all manner of misfits, curmudgeons, and generally miserable human beings.

Whenever I list an item, I ask myself: is there anything that I have omitted from the description / photos that a mean-spirited, hateful and / or obsessively compulsive individual might seize upon to claim that I am dishonest?

Thank you for responding. The grandparents inscriptions were disclosed in detail in 3 places. If she didn't want them with the inscriptions inside the front cover, why did she purchase them? lol Or maybe she glanced at the pictures and read nothing?

Each book title was listed with all the details and about the writing/inscriptions in 2 of the books. No scribbling or writing on pages.

Thank you!  I love your humor. I think reading the item description is a lost art. More pictures in the future I guess.
