Hello
I just made 2 sales within less than 20 minutes of each other. Both buyers purchased the same item. Both buyers are new accounts (accounts created today) and their names have the same initials. They both live in the same state although the addresses are different.
I just have a feeling like something is off, would it be strange to cancel the order? I can't think of why someone would make 2 accounts to do this....

unfortunately both buyers have paid, i recently changed all my ads to immediate payment required after so many people never followed through with payment 😞 I'm worried cancelling their order with no legit reason would result in negative feedback

Sounds a little suspicious. Wonder what would happen if you sent each a message saying, 'hey, did your buddy in xxxx tell you about this?'
Just curious what their response would be?
How about their Paypal email addresses?
Either buyer have FB?

You can also expect to receive defects from eBay for failure to complete transactions without
a legit reason
You sell, got paid, you ship

both buyers have paid,
That says it all.
Ship, and stop worrying until there is some reason.

Would you please let us know what you decided and how it turns out?
Good luck!

My son has the initials JR and my daughter the initials RJ. They both live in the same town. Why would it be odd for them to each purchase from you if you were offering an item that they were both into?
Since both your buyers have paid you need to ship the items to each. If you cancel you will likely receive a defect for your trouble.

IMO, you are being a bit unreasonable. Yes, it would be strange to cancel the orders. I've sold items to buyers with new accounts with no problems at all.
They pay, the money is in your PP account. Ship the items out.

Obviously, you are feeling a red flag situation that tells you to wonder what the heck just happened. You were right to do so. I have to laugh at those who say , You sell, you got paid, now ship! You just experienced a very odd situation and your human nature is protecting you to wonder. So you asked here and the response is, "follow the rules of selling". It's true, you were paid, now it is time to ship. SInce you were paid, you must have received the shipping addresses. How do they compare? If they are down the street, it certainly wouldn't hurt to ask if someone purchase one of the items in error. You are right to inquire. You are doing the buyer a favor by wondering. They may/may not tell you if they don't realize it so ask. It's better to ask than assume. I don't know of any buyer who would be upset at such a question. I wouldn't. You have a gut feeling. Go with your gut. Don't ignore it and assume. Cancelling both transaction is probably not the best thing to do until you ask.
I am not savy in finding out what you sold, like some other's who post here. Was it an expensive item. Was it something that someone may want 2 of? There's just not enough info in your original post for me to go by my own gut and suggest how you should proceed other than... ask each buyer a question about their purchase. If the buyer ignores you, then I would wonder even more. Maybe someone down the street, if they are close by says, "Hey man, check this out, I just got this great deal on XXX, check it out man! You gotta get one!!!" Friends do this. It is POSSIBLE your gut is over-reacting to the strangeness of the way things have gone thus far and is why those who share your concerns, want to know what happens.
Send a couple of messages and tell us the response. ( I can't tell you how many times some folks have joined ebay just to buy what I was selling. But what are you selling that might cause this to happen? If it's toilet paper, that may be understandable that two people, related, informed the other to buy your items.) There is a lot more/less to this than meets the eye. Which is why you no doubt wrote about it and asked.

I'm guessing you sold pre-orders for the BTS K-Pop DVD. If the buyers are non-Caucasian, their initials might be similar. I can see where one fan of this group might alert another friend/fan that this DVD is available.
Years ago, I was selling a small booklet that held those smashed pennies from various venues. This booklet was from Disneyland, and all of a sudden I had a rush of sales, and sold them all. I tried to get more, but they were all sold out at Disneyland. Turns out these sales were coming from members of a club that collected these smashed elongated pennies. So someone found my listing and told the other members!

One thing I would at least do is wait out your entire handling time you have on the listing before sending it out. All my listings are 3 business day handling time now just to give me some slack during the virus. So if the same thing happened to me, I'd wait out the entire 3 business days before sending it out. Sometimes buyers take a day or two to find out they accidentally bought twice and let me know.
Then there's the other buyers I have that get pretty peeved asking/yelling at me how come I didn't send their item out same day despite my increased handling time (which equates to extended ETA displayed).

Yes you are likely right as well as you'd get a couple of defects on your account and you'd still end up paying the PP fees.
Over the years, sellers have many times come to the threads noticing they have an unusual amount of sales all coming from one geographic area. Happens to me all the time. There have been times I will go months without a single sale to Puerto Rico and then suddenly I have 3. All sales are fine, they went off without a hitch. It is likely that yours will too.
But if you do run into issues, come on back and let us help you through it.

Last week a buyer purchased two items from me. Then about an hour later someone again bought the same two items and this time paid for it. The first one was never paid for. I kind of suspected it was the same person. Today before I could email the person if they wanted to cancel, eBay opened a case for non-payment automatically.
The buyer emailed me and said she was trying to buy something for her company, however the eBay account on the computer was a personal account of the person who normally makes purchases for the company so she was forced to create a new account in order to place the order.
I did think a bit about it, but my policy is once payment is made, I ship.
