You've been on ebay more than 20 years and are a seller. eBay has been switching sellers over to managed payments for the better part of 3 years. You should have a message box full of notices on this subject.
When you've sold a certain dollar amount. A 1099 form will be generated so your gross sales can
be reported to the IRS. To do that, ebay needs your SS#
By the way, eBay is only asking for the same info you gave Paypal many years ago.

eBay is required by federal law to issue a 1099-K to sellers effective in 2022 for sales exceeding $600. In order to be compliant with this federal law, sellers are required to provide a 'tax identification number" (TIN) or (EIN)
Starting in 2021, the IRS is making some changes to bring efficiency and increased accuracy to its reporting and compliance processes. This brought a few updates to the 1099-K reporting, notably, a lower threshold that will have a big impact on sellers.
This threshold change comes as a result of the American Rescue Plan Act that was signed into law on March 11, 2021. This threshold change will become effective in 2022.

Governments have no money of their own. Everything they spend is first stolen (oops - taxed) from us.
