scam!!

While there are scammers out there, there are far more honest buyers than scammers. In the ten years i have been selling, i have never encountered a dishonest buyer.

So while you need to be aware of scams, it is unlikely you will be targeted, unless you are selling expensive in-demand items, particularly smartphones, computers, gaming systems and the like.

I approach every sale as if there will be no issues with the buyer. If i did not, and approached every sale with suspicion, i would never be able to complete a transaction. So my point is be smart, be aware, but don’t anticipate or borrow trouble. Scammers tip their hands soon enough.

One final thought, a new buyer with low or no feedback is no more suspicious than a new seller with few feedbacks. We all started with no feedback. It is impossible to tell a scammer from a legit buyer thru a feedback score alone. More is needed.

So my advice is, keep on your toes, but don’t fear every sale is a potential problem. Good luck and wish you much success on eBay.

They are wearing a mask and only appear at night. Seriously though you can't tell by looking at them. However,  any buyer asking you to text or call them, or to include gift cards is a scammer. Remember, only sell what you can afford to lose.

scam!!

Many common scams begin with a seemingly innocent request to violate eBay policy: asking for a text number or email address, or asking to ship to a different location, offering to pay more than your buy-it-now price. If you go along with such requests, you may find yourself involved in an off-eBay transaction where you have no recourse if things go wrong. With your text number or email address, a scammer can send a realistic looking email that appears to show that you have been paid when you have actually not been paid.

By following eBay policy and recognizing when a user is asking you to violate policy, you can often avoid many common scams.

Anyone asking you to purchase a gift card to complete a transaction is always engaged in some sort of scam.

There are other sorts of scams involving fraudulent returns -- those are much harder to spot until they actually occur.

@faisho_1   The other members answered your question about scammers.

Looking at your listings though right now you are losing money.

There is no way to sell an item .70 to .99 cents and offer free shipping from Sri Lanka.  Never start an auction for less than you are willing to sell the item for.

Ebay charges 10% in fees for most categories.

Paypal fees are 2.9% +.30 cents for USA sellers, I am not sure if you will be charged an extra fee by PayPal since you are located in another country.

EDIT TO ADD>  If your buyer does not pay you file an unpaid item case 48 hours after close of sale.  96 hours later return to the case and mark it as not paid to get your sellers fees back

Exactly! I looked at this seller's listings and decided he should be more concerned about his pricing structure than about scammers.

We foreign sellers cannot open Disputes for 48 hours after purchase.

There are several differences between selling on dotCOM from the USA and selling here from another country.

Which is why we foreigners should always ask questions on our home sites as well as here.

DotCOM has the largest number of sellers (and buyers) , but each country's site has its own little quirks.

If by "disputes", you mean unpaid item cases, sellers in the US cannot open those cases until 48 hours after the end of the listing/auction either.  Same rule for us as for the UK.

@femmefan1946   The rules and fees that a seller has to follow are dedicated by which site they list the item on.

For example, if I list an item on .com but a buyer in the UK buys it then I pay fees based on the US site even though they click on my listing on the UK site and buy it from there.

If they do not pay then I file the unpaid item case based on the rules of the site that I listed on.  In my case and the OP's that would be .com

The OP does not have a Sri Lanka eBay site to list on.

Oh yes, of course.

But there are differences (the 96 hours to open a Dispute is one) and shipping can also vary from site to sire.

I may not be able to open a Dispute quickly (even from a dotCOM listing) but on the other hand, I have Global Top Rated Seller status although less than 5% of my sales are tracked.

And 99c USD goes farther in Sri Lanka than it does in the USA (or here in Canada).

That is such a good point to make! When we as posters are evaluating what international sellers are doing, it is important to remember that foreign economies may be much different than ours in the USA etc.

I looked up some facts about Sri Lanka a week or so ago when i noticed new sellers from there were posting in the forum pretty regularly. Discovered that although Sri Lanka’s poverty rate is low, some 45% of the population lived on less than $5 per day (in 2013 stats).
