return to sender question

What happens when an item is returned to sender due to insufficient address? How long do I have to reship the item? How does this work? Buyer offered to pay for re-shipment but is now dragging his feet with payment. I don't want to reach some kind of time limit and get penalized. Thanks for any info. 🙂

There is no limit.  You've done nothing wrong.  Your buyer is the one dragging their feet and that serves no purpose.

I've had this happen a few times over the years.  When I get one, I do as you did and contact my buyer.  I give them two options.

I can refund their product price they paid less the original shipping or I can send them an invoice through PP for shipping and I'd reship.  I charge them exactly what I did the first time.

I also remind them to make sure the ship to address is correct and complete as you have to ship to the address on the payment.

When you create the new shipping label DO NOT go to the original transaction to do that.  If you do, you will lose the details of the original shipment and that could cause you problems and a ding on your account for late shipment as it would then be pulling the information from your new label.

You print the label from your new payment submitted for the reshipment through PP.  That will keep everything clean.

I'd just send your buyer a gentle reminder and let them know you sent them a invoice in which they can pay from through PP.  See if that helps.

The problem is that I didn't send an invoice. They never gave me their email so I gave them mine to send payment (goods and services) which works the same way essentially. Hopefully they do not send Friends and Family. I didn't even think about that until now. Ugh! lol

I guess I will let them just drag their feet a little longer.  Thankfully I have more of the item they bought so it's not holding my sales back yet. The person definitely want's their items (the literal 25 messages in my inbox from them reflects this lol) so I am not sure what is holding them back. If they don't know how, I wish they'd contact me.

Thank you for your help! Here's hoping they deal with it on their end soon!

If they paid through PP, you can get it.  Just go into create an invoice.  Find your buyer, you can send the invoice.

Or you can ask them to send it through the Friends and Family function on PP so you don't have a fee to pay to PP.

I went into the invoice on paypal but could not locate it. I also tried creating a new invoice on the paypal website and app and when I type in the name on the ebay payment, I get no results in paypal. The name is showing on paypal so I don't know why it won't let me access their email. 😞

Good grief, I do this so seldom I sometimes forget.

You can get their email address by going to your Seller Hub and then to Orders.  The email address still show there.

I'm sorry I didn't think of that sooner.  I think all the bad weather we are having have affected my brain.  LOL
