reserve bid question

i have a car for sale on ebay and i just got a question wanting me to tell them what my reserve is at. is that allowed or if not what should i respond to when i get those questions?

I'm not aware that telling them would be against any policies.  What they're really asking you is what is least you will take for it.

Yeah, I guess the question is allowed. Whether or not you answer it is up to you. Personally, if I'd paid for a Reserve, I'd not disclose it.

You are not obligated to divulge that info to this perspective buyer. If they want to hit the reserve, they should bid on the item.  Sounds like they're fishing for the lowest price.

The reserve price has never meant to be a secret. Some bidders find a reserve to be annoying, and prefer not to keep bid nibbling trying to reach it.

I usually tell people my reserve...oh that's right I don't waste money on paying for a reserve I just start it at the lowest I'll take.

I'd just tell them otherwise they may bid until they find it out and then cancel all their bids

That saying was a common answer to your question a while back.  There’s no reason to keep the Reserve a secret … especially on eBay Motors where all vehicle sales are nonbinding.  

And, yes … it’s allowed.

You might want to save costs and hassle by dumping the Reserve and just opening your auction at the minimum price you would accept to sell if you only ever got one bid, and then every bid after that is gravy.

The fees structure is different for vehicle listings. Reserve option is included at no additional cost in the upper two levels of motors listings (Plus and Premium) and not available for any price in the lowest tier (Basic).

i tried a fixed price and got no bidders. so i going to try the auction format to see if the testosterone kicks in.

and i have it in the center listing option.  if it sells i will have to pay the fees there is no way around that. thanks

Your fixed price was waaaaaaay over your starting bid. With a bit of detective work, that prospective buyer would know pretty much what your 'Reserve' is. Afterthought... I suppose that offering the amount might be a time-saver in this situation.

i guess you may figure it out with some work but that fixed price was a few weeks ago and i got no bids. that is why i did the auction.  so i could have started it at .99 also but all that might have done is just make a few more bids. so i guess if anyone does ask i will just tell them.  thanks

Incorrect.  The fees are due even if it doesn’t sell.

I am a very serious buyer, and do not waste my time with hidden reserve prices. I focus on items that I know where I stand with.
