The buyer asked me if it was possible to get him some gift cards with the package. I had to buy them with my own money. then after I sent the gift cards to the email that was provided which was online-payment-approved@consultant.com they approved and then send me another email saying. that the money the buyer sent had been authorized by the finance department and is ready to be credited to my PayPal account. They came out and said that I need to purchase another gift card of $500 which will be credited to my account after also. they say they are doing this to activate the processing of my money and that the $500 will be added to the amount that the buyer gave. i need help because i did that and now they are saying that $200 of the gift card is already used and in there system already when had literally bought them less then 30 mins before. what do i do i called paypal and they said they couldnt do anything to call ebay tried the number didnt help at all. where else can i go? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

It was a scam. The gift cards have almost certainly been spent already. That’s clearly not an eBay email address.

I'm sorry for the painful lesson you are about to learn.

But you did not have to buy those gift cards; you were asked and you chose to. You did not have to give the gift cards to a perfect stranger; you were asked and you chose to.

When they found out how easy it was to trick you they went back for more!

unfortunately you are a victim of a very old scam and the money you have spent is gone and cannot be recovered.

Why oh why people do not wise up to these scams is mind boggling.

There was never a buyer, just a scammer who saw an opportunity to get rich off an inexperienced new seller.

Best advice at this point is to cancel the "sale"(most likely would never be paid for anyway) and block the buyer

@bangtan20 I am sorry this happened to you, but I am afraid there is no way eBay or Paypal can help you with this. You fell for a very old scam - please read all you can about selling on eBay, how payments work and never ever accept any proof of any payment other than the seller hub message from eBay telling you the buyer has paid and it is okay to ship an item.

You are selling what you have listed ONLY - and no genuine buyer will EVER ask you for Gift Cards to be included EVER.

Your money was gone as soon as you sent the scammers the card numbers.

These boards are full of advice - good and bad. You aren’t getting either because it truly is too late. Cut your losses in your time and emotion - there is nothing more to be done.

Stories such as yours are frustrating and sad. Truly sorry that you were scammed.

I’ve read far too many of these horror stories on here, but I must say, this one feels over the top. Why put a link in the post? I’d be far too upset to think of creating a new ID to post with and I’d have tons of questions. Most new sellers wouldn’t even want to use their own money to pay for shipping, much less have that much money on hand for gift cards. I hope this isn’t true. If it is, the crook won handily.

Unfortunately, there is no help to be had. PayPal and eBay can't help because neither one of them was ever involved in this. No legitimate person or business entity was involved in this, so there is nowhere to turn to for help.

I supposed you could file a police report and/or an internet fraud report, but that won't help you get your money back. The reason the scammers want gift cards is because they are untraceable and unrecoverable.

I know you were trying to accomodate what you thought was a buyer, but think about it: If that person intended to pay for the gift cards, he would just have bought them for himself. There is no logical reason to ask you to do it.

Thats just an email address - not a link. It might also just be a fake return address on a message where the real Reply-To header goes someplace else.
