For years Amex tried to induce me to accept their cards, the incentives were interesting but I turned them down every time.
If eBay offered Amex as an option for sellers but at a higher rate (2+% extra) would you opt-in?
I've never met an Amex cardholder that didn't have at least one of Visa or M/C and most have multiples of both.
For extra spice, Amex chargebacks can happen for a VERY long time after the original transaction.

Amex makes it very costly and challenging to deal with after-sale issues. No one wants the headaches that come along with some unscrupulous Amex customers. Nevermind the chargebacks.

Especially for eBay one could assume. AE doesn't PLAY nice with eBay's denial program when a "fake tracking scam" is playing out for a buyer that is a victim of same.

I just received the notification from eBay to update my payment method for selling fees as they will no longer be excepting American Express by August 17, 2024.
We are a business and that's the only card our company uses.
Not sure what to add now for the backup payment as the owner won't get any other card for the business.

Actually, I saw that and read your post and didn't chuckle either time. I understand the added cost and chargeback risk and get why they are doing it. There are lots of places that don't take American Express but do take MC, Visa, Discover.

Don't remember what the fee's were, but they take forever to release the payments.

Awww, poor eBay crying about the fees. Amex should run some ads - "That thing you were going to buy on eBay? They have it on Amazon too, where American Express is welcome."
I get kickbacks usually between $75-100 a month on my Amex. Have never paid a penny in interest. Probably my favorite card, but occasionally encounter places that don't accept it.

No company likes the AmEx in general. If my B&M job had their way they wouldn't accept AmEx at all.

This is precisely why my B&M job hates them.

Fo sho.
Requiring a 30 day rolling reserve even for well established merchant account holders isn’t unheard of with AMEX.
