capri, cargo, chino, croped, jogger, sweatpants, trackpants, windbreaker.
cargo ok, the rest is all trash and what if their not cargo? id say fix it but god knows what will happen to the site if they change things now. i havent even really looked at the others but im sure their just as stupid would it have killed you to have your coder work with someone with some knowledge in each category

I believe they are just working to improve their search functionality for buyers. The more item specifics that are added, the more filters they can use. If your item does not have these item specifics, customers will not be able to see your listing if they use a filter when searching. The item specifics on eBay listings are 10 times better then any other sales channel that we use. That's why it is much easier to find what you're looking for on eBay compared to Amazon. The more specifics you have on your items gives more trust for a buyer looking at that item compared to a listing that has bare bones specifics.

When there isn't an appropriate choice on the list, you can type in "none" and that's been working for me! I don't know if it'll stick or if the same listings will come back begging for more (clarification) but until they provide some more accurate choices, I'll use "none".

i was using other terms not listed last night and they would still come back as needing the update. i dont see why they think shoppers are going to go down a list of 50 boxes to help their search. kiss keep it simple stupid. but what do i know

The problem is they/eBay are applying item specifics to unique one of a kind type items with the risk of corrupting the original data that had all the correct information in the body of listings. That information is not visible with the tool. It is also not backwards compatible for a seller to check from their physical listing to see what is officially required OR not required.

PS. Have come across several where the checkbox for Do Not Show does not display so unable to complete.

Personal opinion.
Guessing can be very dangerous if you are unsure or unable to confirm.

Mediocracy? It's total failure. Again. As it is every time they implement changes to IS's.
@Littleblackdog - there is no need to type in None. Just leave them blank or choose from the drop down. Except in very rare cases, you do not want to type in your own IS. IS's directly relate to left hand drill down searches & as much as possible (I know it's hard) it benefits you to choose from their options. If they are too non-sensical or don't apply to your item, just leave them blank.

People load the product title in hopes that their listing will show when some does a search. I'm sure you can find a listing for jeans that has sweat pants or capris in the title and visa versa. I see a lot of sellers that are still learning and trying anything they can to ensure their listing comes up for searches. By the way, I love my mens jean capris and jean sweatpants. Super comfy lol
Wouldn't mediocracy be listing a item with the bare minimum specifics? I cannot comment on listings that pertain to clothing as we are automotive parts. I do know the importance of working to add as many specifics as possible since that will help our listings in the search and the buyer will find our items before someone that did not take that extra time.
