new listing format

Does anyone else absolutely hate the new listing format? All it does is ADD to the time it takes me to list an item!

@boxybeaut

Some are not to crazy about it.

I've been using it for more then a year now and it doesn't take any longer to list, then it did with the older tools.

Have a great day.

Re: new listing format

Yep. Pretty much everybody that gets switched over is not happy about it. It does take longer to list with because of all the extra clicks and goofy mobile design that does not translate into a desktop experience.

Every week new sellers come here to the board to complain or express dislike after they are forced in, yet we here nothing from eBay about it and the changes and improvement are coming at a snails pace.

I do think they are working on it but as the expression goes..... They are polishing a turd.   It's overall mobile design was a terrible direction to go for a computer listing tool. It just wasted or time and discouraged us from listing. Who wants to fight with it everyday? We want simple efficient and easy to use tool that works well on whatever device we choose, not a scaled down confusing phone app.

Again though-it works great on your phone as it was designed for!- it just sucks on a computer- problem if that most eBay sellers that list consistently do it on a desktop, not a phone......oops, somebody screwed up but not paying attention to their customer base again.

Re: new listing format

I wonder if Ebay realizes there are still plenty of people around that use a PC like me? I have zero use for a smart phone and all the trillions of apps. one can add or whatever. It's not practical for me, so why should I be forced into something I don't know anything about or care to know about? Everything is being done by a much younger bunch of Ebay minions/drones that have nothing better to do but sit around thinking what can I do next to make it more difficult for PC users? But what are you gonna do? Ebay doesn't care...and it's a waste of time talking to some Rep. because nothing will be done regardless of how much they tell you they'll take care of th e problem.

Re: new listing format

I have thousands of listings and do each and every one of them on my PC.  The new format is an absolute horror and yes, it has doubled the amount of time its taken me to list items.  Very unfortunate.

Re: new listing format

Ive seen ebay do a lot of "updates" and "improvements", this is by far the worst ive seen yet. Instead of just developing their mobile app, (and lets be honest thats exactly what this update is) they forced desktop users to use a mobile format. Theres fewer options for editing and desperately trying to convey info to buyers (14pt font minimum, only 3 font options, etc), the layout is atrocious and it takes longer to do everything, especially when the update changes THOUSANDS of your listings.

I don't "hate" much, but I hate, in the strongest terms, this update.

Re: new listing format

I also use only a desktop for all my listings, and was able to adapt well enough to the changes in a day or two by using Sell Similar and not starting from scratch.

People are naturally resistant to change. That's just the way humans are. The way to successfully deal with change is to ACCEPT>ADJUST>ADAPT. I know there are those who hate me saying that over the last few years here, but it's exactly what successful  eBay sellers do. Sometimes it happens quickly, sometimes slowly, but it will always materialize if we accept it, adjust our attitude, time and business model to it, and then adapt to it. That's the bottom line in light of the fact that although eBay is listening and improving the new format, it's not going to abandon the changes and return to the former listing format just because people are resistant to change.

Cheers, Duffy

Re: new listing format

Sell Similar has been a godsend for me too.

Interestingly, when using SS, we can change the category too.

So if I choose a SS from my Unsold list, I can change the category from Stamps to Books without a hiccough and all the other IS etc change to match.

I list from a MAC pc using Safari and have had no issues with the new listing tool. In fact, I prefer it and find it more efficient and less time consuming.

Re: new listing format

I hate it with a passion, it takes me way longer to list items and the rearranged locations cause us more time trying to find things that are important to our listing. We have to sift through more useless forms than before, and we have the stupid thing crashing 1/3 of the time and we have to redo the listing from scratch.

Also have a bug where after entering product information it gets deleted while scrolling down the page.

Every month this year we are getting pushed towards using a competitor like Amazon, this is just one more step. We are giving things until Jan 1 2023 and if they keep going down hill we are done selling here. Years of work on a failed platform are not worth it.

Re: new listing format

"Just Adapt" ha ha ha that is funny:)  I am happy to adapt (and have no choice) even with a long learning curve.  IF the new product is better or at least the same ease of use as the previous product it is all worthwhile.  For PC users this is NOT the case.  So you are saying that I need to adapt by allocating at least 50% (in my estimate) more time to list as before (not counting photo taking / editing which still takes the same using Photoshop).

You would think that eBay would realize that one reason sales are slowing is because people don't have 50% more time to list. That is not adapting, that is the physical laws of time (unless you have a Tardis)  So less quantity and less quality listings are being created.  Thus less revenue for eBay and for the sellers.

There are a few "very key" improvements needed to bring the new tool close to parity but they have NOT been implemented.  The reason for this is that the smart phone interface has some interaction restrictions because of having no mouse. (and a few other things like no hover) I have left so many feedbacks and Facebook interactions about these key problems that I have lost the desire to keep trying.

Somebody at the high up level decided that the phone and PC interface had to be exactly the same.  That is just so misguided!  There are industry standard UI code generating tools that generate 2 different views, one for a small tablet / phone screen and one for a desktop with physical keyboard and mouse.  The programmers would not even have to write different code!  They just create the underlying business rules and inputs and outputs and they generate deployable versions of the app for different devices.

What we have here is they forgot to generate the PC version of the listing tool. Or management wont let them?  It just really hard to understand with todays IU generation tools that handle all the different devices and PCs for you if you develop the underlying application correctly.  Somebody missed the boat, or did not clearly understand the mandate from the prez or whomever.  It is really sad since a solution (without having to some how allocate much more time) is so easily at hand. But if this new listing interface was developed with a smart phone application generating tool alone, then that is where the initial  fail took place.

Re: new listing format

That's probably because you are using a smartphone. We have a PC and do not own smartphones. We are well over 70 years old and it's very hard to adjust to these new changes. We have been selling on ebay for over 23 years and it seems like ebay is pushing us to go elsewhere.

Re: new listing format

Ugh, I moved and had vacation settings on for 2 months, came back to this! It's HORRIBLE, I agree with adding time, and just an FYI...  DON'T hit the 'preview' button, unless you want to look at it once, then lose the ENTIRE listing.  Someone probably got a raise and kudos for creating this page to slow all of the true money makers down.

And of course, they have EVERY emoji except the palm/face one, because that would get used too often on here!

Re: new listing format

Why do we need to keep adding more?  Information overload.   And after all the information some buyers still email you for more, and I encourage that. At what point is enough, enough?  I think a concise description is best.
