making payments

Hi, I have an item that will likely sell for a high price (for me  anyway). Anyway, a potential bidder asked if he could make payments instead of paying it all at once... anyone know how would that work? At first I was receptive to the idea, he says he does this regularly, but now I am trying to figure out how it will work.

No, no, no. Follow eBay rules. He has to pay in full now. You are about to be scammed. Once you send the item, you will not see any more payments and there is nothing eBay or anyone can do for you. Block the buyer now and stop communicating with him. This is a scam.

eBay has no provision for installments.

Sorry, I don't believe him.

IMHO it works like this ... each time he wants to make a payment to you, he puts that money into a jar instead. Once the jar has enough money to buy the item, he comes back to eBay and checks to see if your item is still available. If it is still available, he uses the money in the jar to buy it.

PayPal offers instalment payment options to some people, I think if they qualify it will automatically appear on the listing.

When I look at your mailbox I see PayPal credit offered, no interest if paid within 6 months, not sure if everyone see that.

This is a BUYER option, seller is paid in full immediately. There is no way for a seller to offer something like this on eBay anymore.

Let's simplify this.  If someone asks for layaway tell them to go away.

I've had items for sale with very high ticket values.  PayPal offers credit plans for all purchases if they have applied and received a credit line.  It is up to the buyer to secure credit for these purchases.  The seller never needs to be involved and Scammers will lie about anything to rip you off.  Anyone wanting to purchase your item has the option of making payments through PayPal or their credit card.  Never allow anyone to take a purchase off site either.  Another time it gets risky is when you offer something for local pickup and they want to pay upon pickup.  When they arrive they ask to use an electronic payment method.  You have to verify payment as they could potentially send you a fake PayPal payment or rip you off with Venmo if they cancel the payment after receiving your goods.  Cash is king for local pickup and you need to verify the pickup immediately with eBay.

When a buyer wants to make payments , recommend to the buyer to apply for a PayPal credit card which will allow the buyer to make payments to the PayPal credit card for the purchased item.
