It sounds like you have tried to pick a category that you are not able to put an item in.
for example ...
Books > Catalogs > Agriculture Catalogs
... is a valid category to list in, because it is a "leaf" on the category "tree"- in other words, it is a category at the end of a "branch" with no other more categories beyond it.
But on the other hand ...
Books > Catalogs
... is a not valid category to list in, because it is a "branch" on the category "tree" - there are more detailed category "leaves" beyond it.
I say "it sounds like" this is the problem, because you gave us no other information about what you are trying to do.
Since all the errors you are receiving mention the category, it would be helpful if you told us what category you were trying to list in 🙂
