going internationally

Good evening

I am wondering if anyone has gone internationally (selling) and if so..... what/ how is your experience?   I am thinking aabout it but wonder if it is really worth all the hassle of having to worry about it going overseas and what if's...................      thanks

For those currently in GSP, that has nothing to do with the change to EIS.  GSP is going away.  EIS does NOT have to be opt'd into.  It will be available to all sellers once it is fully rolled out.  If you like GSP, EIS is going to be better.

I don't know what info you are talking about other that the one big misstep where they said our money would be held until the buyer receives the item.  Ebay has stated they were wrong right away and many times.  They were mistaken, the MP / money flow will be the same as it is now.

I have never sold off shore, but if Australia had the GSP I would have, using that program.

About 90% of my sales are international, with 85% going to the USA and 5% going overseas. Only 10% or so of my sales are shipped to my home country, Canada.

FWIW because the cost of tracked shipping is so high, most of my sales go commando -- with no tracking. This is normal for us non-US sellers, because your cost for domestic tracking is very very low.  Nonetheless, I have less than one percent of my sales resulting in any sort of INR claim.

EBay recognizes this and we non-US sellers can get Global TRS status (and perks) without having to show tracking.

I Block sales to four countries. India and Israel have terrible postal systems and I have strong dislike for the governments of Russia and Saudi Arabia. OTOH , I have had no problems with Africa, although most of my sales have been to RSA, Egypt or Morocco, and I have worked with New Canadians from two of those countries.

When I first started selling here, many years ago, I sold internationally and only blocked a few places.  I loved it!  But things have changed, and I no longer sell here.  I'm a bit sad about that, but after reading these threads for so long I am glad I am out of the fray.

     Fully understand GSP is "going away" and that those currently using GSP will be, from what I understand, automatically transitioned to EIS. For those that are not using GSP or want to use EIS my understanding was you have to OPT into or enroll just as you currently do with the GSP by changing your current seller preferences. 

     I have no idea who the vendor is or where the EIS ship to point is which could potentially, since I am on the east coast, impact my shipping cost for the first leg from me to the EIS center. I do not know who eBay has subcontracted the service out to or what their reputation is. As for the service being "better" that is to be seen/proven. There have already been a couple of posts about sellers that were transitioned and have experienced problems.

No.  There is no need to opt into EIS as it will be available for all to use.  No need to enroll.

Sellers may like GSP, but many buyers try to avoid purchasing when GSP is used for shipping.

For us Canadians, our duty-free allowance is $150 (US residents have $800 duty-free) and tax -free allowance is $40.

Which means our cost for " shipping" through the GSP seems shockingly high, since those import fees are seen as part of the shipping cost.

And of course, most Canadians, like any buyers anywhere, are ignorant of the actual cost of shipping.

That many sellers now use Free Shipping as a marketing tool feeds into that ignorance.

Sounds like, with sales remaining flat, eBay is trying to encourage international shipping to a seller base that is terrified of what is a fairly simple process.  (Again about 90% of my sales go out of my country.)

That fear of the foreign was why eBay introduced GSP in the first place.
