going internationally

Good evening

I am wondering if anyone has gone internationally (selling) and if so..... what/ how is your experience?   I am thinking aabout it but wonder if it is really worth all the hassle of having to worry about it going overseas and what if's...................      thanks

I sell internationally using ebay's GSP (global shipping program).

There is no "hassle". Absolutely none.

Ebay does everything for you.

You treat it just like any other domestic sale?

way back when, I did international, but found that my items we not really a good match for international.

A quick look at your first 240 items does not look like much that would be in demand internationally due to the buyer costs involved in shipping.

I do not offer international shipping. Not even through the GSP. I sell a bit to international buyers. They purchase with a US shipping address, and use a freight forwarder where their shipping cost is greatly reduced.

You have many items to sell. You might pick and choose some that would be a match for international shipping.  Just as with domestic selling there is also the cost of the seller is probably going to have to pay it,"return" shipping to be considered 🙂

You do not have to "do" anything except include "ships to Internationally" in your listings. You can bulk edit all of your listings at one time. You can omit any country you do not want to ship to. For shipping method I select First class up to $100, Priority from $100 to $500 and over $500 Express Mail. Buyer Pays. No free international shipping. This is not China. You can always then select another actual method to ship. The ISP is usually cheaper. Ebay is apparently doing away with the Global Shipping Program and replacing it with the International Shipping Program. For countries that insist on VAT or Duty up front, eBay collects that. You have nothing to do with it. But like sales tax, eBay charges you a final value fee based on the TOTAL AMOUNT, including shipping and duty. If you are not happy selling internationally it is just as easy to bulk edit and remove that option.

The Global Shipping Program increased my sales by 3% to 4% and I have never had a problem.
I received the notification that I am now enrolled in the eBay International Shipping program.

Introducing eBay International Shipping 2:02

     I started selling internationally when eBay introduced the Global Shipping Program. That program was subcontracted out  to and ran by Pitney Bowes who is an industry leader and expert in international logistics. While the program delayed the shipment to the buyer by a few days due to the dual shipping legs from me to Erlanger KY and then from Erlanger to the customer from a sellers perspective it offered a lot of advantages. The GSP invoiced the buyer and included the cost for both shipping legs, they handled the customs forms, collected any VAT/customs fees and updated the order with the tracking information once they shipped the item from Erlanger. There were a couple of drawbacks the first being the buyer incurred the shipping cost for both legs and I was only able to use first class package shipping to Erlanger on items that weighed under 1 pound. Had I shipped directly I could have used international first class for packages up to 4 pounds. I never had any issues or problems with any shipment that went through the GSP. 

    When eBay announced the transition of the GSP to the EIS I opted out of the GSP which also opted me out of the EIS and quit selling internationally. EBay could not seem to get their facts and stories straight about the EIS program and still has not been able to do so. At some point I may return to international shipping but for the moment I will sit on the sidelines and see how this new program goes. EBay does not have the best track record with implementing change or even managing programs they have established. The authentication centers are a prime example.

I got switch over to the new international as well. First issue I got is INKFrog not set up for it and cannot list your items. unless you turn off GSP on inkfrog.  lol

Yes it is.  EIS will be better.  It is an advanced version of SIS [standard international shipping].

It is being rolled out.  We are likely all to be using it my early next year.
