Customer service person says to me. Good News! while you have accepted an offer for an Item u r selling and waiting for buyer to pay, another buyer can acquire the item if the secondary buyer pays for it.  If that is true, how can a secondary buyer see it if its not in the active listings? I looked for it but nowhere to be found. So, I called customer service and was told no. The buyer has 4 days to pay. What? This sounds like a low rent deal to be sure. It is bad enough that buyers get 4 days to pay, which is a draconian dictum that ebay has stood by for years that makes no sense. I as a seller should be the only one to grant that. Where in the real world is this a practice that is taken away from the seller. How about lay a way or a deposit and hold? Anything like that is decided before the fact. Even worse it can be down onle when a offer is accepted! So, I accept an offer and then get squeegeed by having to wait. Does somebody in the conisentia at this outfit see the poor rationale for this? Please tell me I am not alone in thinking that is as misguided as it gets. How can a company of this size allow such a shortsighted decision to exist for so long. Look, I want my money, I need my money. Does ebay allow me to skate when I buy their services? What is wrong here?

You can resolve your issue easily.  Set your buy it now listings to be IPR.  Then buyers can't purchase it unless they pay for it.

As for the current system where we can file a Cancellation 96 hours after a buyer purchased something because they didn't pay, if you think this is too much time, then you have not been having a big problem with non payers.  The old system took longer.  Since you didn't know that, it is not likely this is a big issue for you.

"I as a seller should be the only one to grant that."

Well actually you did grant that. Your complaint is in the policy. When you accept an offer from the buyer the buyer has a certain amount of time to pay. However the item is still up for sale for someone else to purchase. Ebay changed this rule due to nonpaying buyers. It is actually a good thing cause why should an item not be up for sale due to a nonpaying buyer. Makes no sense. They should be paying for it right away. Yes you need your money now but remember you are running a business. If you need money right away then don't accept offers. Have fixed price no offers and the buyer pays immediately.

Actually as the seller eBay has given you the ability to control the 4 day window. In your account settings go to the following. Simple solution. Realize it does come with trade offs.

https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements

Check the following 2 boxes.

If accept an offer, the item is not really sold until the buyer pays. During the meantime, another buy can still purchase it a regular price.

Nope. This is done to encourage buyers to pay quickly and it is a good thing IMHO.

If you "I looked for it but nowhere to be found" then I suspect you simply made a mistake when searching.

I as a seller should be the only one to grant that.

eBay recently gave sellers the ability to require a payment method before making an offer. (But eBay has a habit of slowly rolling out new features so it may not be available to all).

My problem is that it is not still up for sale. I could not find it listed. It was not on my list of active items or available as a search in open items. The customer service people said thats true. It is not available on open saleable items. But only if someone was aware of it before. So if it is not out there how can it still be available if some buyer pays for it other than the other.  Also I want to control the time frame. 1 day, 2 ok. Not 4. Or contact me ahead of time to set something up. Now I saw one response saying I can adjust the days and gave out a link. Danged if I could find it. Im trying to go through all of the responses. Thanks to all of you who tried to help. Merry whatever you celebrate.

I went there and those boxes had always been checked off. Plus that doesent change this 4 day deal. So I dont understand how that slves my issue.

I know how to check for an item. I also ran it by Customer Service on 2 separate calls and they couldnt locate it either. How does requiring a payment method get me paid?  I can work with the other buyer getting it by paying but if it cant be seen... I looked at my listings, I did a search for the item number and description also. So what other ways would you suggest?

What is an  IPR? I do have it set to pay immedietly. But accepting and offer negates that. At least that is what was noted on screen.

That is right I dont agree with the policy. But I would like to verify that the item is available and viewable. Thats what my complaint is really with.  i do understand the BU 101 aspect of it also, thank you very much. However, if its not available to the market, then something is wrong. So now tell me how to verify that it is available.

@bilzbigdealz

IPR = Immediate Payment Required. It's used with Buy It Now listings. You're correct... 'offers' negate that feature.

IPR = Immediate Payment Required.  And for your fixed price listings, you can check a box in your listing setup to require a buyer has to pay at the time of purchase.

In your original post, you didn't say anything about offers.

If those boxes are checked then it should resolve your issue. It is the same as having immediate payment required set for BIN listings. If the function is not working properly you need to contact eBay support through one of the social media sites.
