Okay here's a strange one...I just received a message from an account with no buying or selling feedback established in 2020. Person said "I have not received my fabric, if there is a problem give me my money back".
I have no record of a sale to this person nor was the message sent with the "purchased" item as normal.
Has anyone ever had this happen?

Ignore and block ID.

Yes, I had received similar in the past.
No response advised, add to blocked buyer list.
If it is a legit problem, the buyer would open a case with eBay or with their Credit Card issuer.

They could have used another account when they made the purchase, but was logged into another account when they messaged you.
I had one like that, buyer checked out as a guest, but messaged me from their account.
Took us a little bit to get it straightened out.

If you have no record of a transaction you have no money to give back and would not be able to refund through eBay. Rather crude scam to try to get you to send money outside of eBay. Report, ignore and block.

Could be the buyer has confused you with another seller.
Rushing straight to block, without investigation, would be premature in my opinion. There is no evidence of scamming at this early point. I would respond politely to help direct them to the right place or solve the mystery.
Until i determine a motive, i would not block or ignore.

You have no record of a transaction then report and block the buyer. If it was a buyer from another account that's on them. You have no obligation to message back a user account you don't have a transaction with.

I got a message from an eBay member about some coins I supposedly sold, them which is clearly a phishing attempt as I have never sold any coins.
They even went so far as to threaten me with legal action.

For the OP:
Consider this casting from the dock hoping to snag a fish.
The fish is a seller who falls for it and jumps thru the hoops to
make the "Buyer" happy.
Block em and ignore em.

I keep getting buyers wanting to return a specific item. It is a gallon of liquid cleaner. There is no way for it to be missing parts or not as described. Ebay always issues them a return label and the buyers send back paperclips, pieces of paper, empty plastic bags. I have had this happen at least 4 times. Ebay still refunds them and they get to keep my $60 item plus i'm out the shipping as well. Ebay needs to crack down on these people and actually have a human look at the dispute when it is filed

Ebay always issues them a return label
Better check your Seller hub Seller Not Resolved statistics if you are not responding to these cases......too many of those and you may be kicked off ebay.

Suggestion: Dear Buyer: So sorry you had a problem with your eBay purchase; however, after searching, I can find no record of a purchase you have made from me. To help clear this up, please give me the item # and any other information you have relative to the problem as I would like to help you resolve this issue.
PS: A long time ago I recall this same thing happened to another seller. As it turned out, the buyer also had a seller account and had accidentally asked his question using his seller account ID instead of as a buyer.

I received a nasty message a couple of months ago telling me I sold them fake coins and to call them immediately or I was going to hear from their lawyer. Used some expletives and left me a phone number to call.
This was through eBay messages.
I replied back that I had never sold coins to anyone, ever and am not going to be bulled on this. I did not call the phone number.
Never heard anything more.

I had one of these about a week ago and have never had one before that. When I researched the buyers user name it showed they bought from me 2 years ago and even had left feedback. I replied with this: Hello- You must have me confused with someone else as you already left me positive feedback from your purchase 2 years ago. Thanks Again
