It seems like you could still be missing some facts about fees. First off, a Reserve is a waste of money and you agree on that point.
Secondly, the final value fee paid by the seller in a successful sale is calculated on the item price, the shipping fee and the state sales tax, if applicable, plus 30 cents. The buyer IS charged the state sales tax and postage, but, again, your FVF is calculated on the total the buyer paid to you.
Of course, if you are leaving eBay, then this information has no value to you.
Best of luck on your next venture.

The OP counts the shipping paid to the shipper as an Ebay FEE if they purchase the shipping through Ebay.
But oddly enough if they purchase their shipping via some other method they don't consider it an Ebay Fee.
The cost of shipping as most of us know, no matter where you purchase it, it is NEVER a fee charged by Ebay. Ebay's fee is on the Amount the seller CHARGES the Buyer for shipping. It has nothing to do with cost of shipping. The actually COST of shipping is paid directly to the carrier the seller purchased the shipping for.
Most understand this, but there are a few that don't see it that way. Ebay has a chart available to us on the Seller Hub under performance that many simply don't read the details. They see the number in the middle of the circle and run with that as what they pay in fees to Ebay. When if they would look at the DETAILS, that is NOT what the chart is showing them.

The actual price it costs you for shipping is NOT part of the Ebay fees. It is a cost of sale, but that is not the same as the Ebay fees. The price you pay for the shipping may be determined by where you purchase your shipping. If you are selling something for $29 and the costs to sell that item are $29 then clearly you are not pricing your products correctly.
If you weren't to use Ebay shipping labels, would you still feel the cost of shipping was a cost of doing business on Ebay?
Have to agree with you on this one. Even in the seller hub if you are not using eBay to create your shipping labels there is an expense to shipping. Following are strictly my eBay selling costs and the fee percentage for June.

The buyer's idea. The item is only worth $60 so no buyer is wiling to pay $60 plus shipping and tax. Unfortunately it is a large item. Ebay got 26.6%. Luckily I only paid $10 for it. I made $10.00 & Ebay made $7.74
Not bad that is 100% return on your investment which may be good or bad depending on how long it took you to flip the item.

I know this is an old thread. I'm not sure about all other sites similar to Ebay, but Etsy nor Amazon charge their fees on sales tax.

With the fees being so high, I just don’t see the value of the eBay selling platform vs other options. Yes, there may be broader visibility for what you are selling, but that’s not worth the 13.25% fee. I’m not talking about shipping or taxes.
I’ve learned my lesson based on experience. Now just waiting to get paid in 2 weeks. <insert eye roll emoji here>

While Ebay is not the least expensive site to sell on, it also is NOT the most expensive. Do your research. Look at the fees other sites charge. You will likely find that Ebay's fees are not as bad as you seem to think they are.
