I notice in selling silver dollars and other small objects, some of you get great enlargements in your posted pictures. I attempt to enlarge items on my HP scanner, and then edit them on Ebay. I am missing something, as the posted pictures are still too small. Any ideas?

Sure, stop using a scanner , buy a cheap digital camera or use you phone, and take pictures using the macro (close up) setting. A small camera stand and using a timer helps as well with close-up photos.

I was able to produce reasonable images with my Canon flatbed scanner when I sold this penny:
If I were selling coins for a living I would have a permanent camera setup on a copy stand with my Nikon DSLR camera, Micro-Nikkor lens, and an extension tube or bellows -- as the quality of the images would be better.

If you want to use a scanner, do not do the editing on eBay. Edit on your own computer, with an imaging handler / photo editor program. There are many free ones you can use, for whatever OS you have. IrfanView is good if you have a Microsoft OS. Fotoxx is good with a Linux OS. Fotor is good for Mac users. Those are all sort of "entry level" applications, designed for quick learning and easy use.

Start out with a higher resolution scan.

I use a scanner for anything small and flat. Set your scanner at it's highest DPI (resolution) . Don't crop too small - to be magnified the image must be at least 500 pixels on each side. 1200 to 1600 is best.
