A person won four different auctions and I combined shipping for them, however, eBay still charged me for each individual shipping fee (which is higher) than what I actually received. I wouldn't think eBay could do this when your shipping amount if less than what is listed. When you invoice the buyer with new shipping few I would think this is the amount eBay must use to factor in their fees not individual shipping fees. The four auctions listed individually $6 shipping fee which would be $24. I combined shipping and discounted $10 for shipping so they only paid $14 but I was charged for the $24. Is this legally okay. I thought they based their fees on what was actually paid to us! So now combining shipping loses you more money because of the way ebay charges their fees on the listing prices, not what was actually received. Any one being able to explain why this is okay please do so. When I order from a store they only charge me for what I ordered and the the shipping I paid. I would think this is what all business would do. It's like buying something on sale and being charged taxes on the original price and not the sale price. I wouldn't think this would be legal.

On your transaction detail for the payment, what does the "fee detail" section show?

eBay based fees on each one separately at 27.76 each which is $20 for items and $6 for shipping (which is individual shipping fee not the combined fee) and then the tax. Buyer only paid $14 for all boxes but fees were based on $6. With combined shipping buyer only paid $3.50 each which is what I would think my fee would be based on. I don't understand how they can do this. Charging a % on money you never received. So eBay is making more money when we combine shipping and taxing us on the original amount not discounted amount.

The issue is eBay sees this as four separate sales and the minute the buyer pays for each one eBay deducts their fees based on the individual listing. The same thing happens with FP items that have immediate payment required unless the buyer uses a shopping cart to bundle the items.

EBay will always apply the fees to the estimated shipping cost regardless of what it actually cost you to ship it. I have had this consolidated shipping issue a couple of times and rather than try to adjust though invoicing I simply have the buyer pay for the individual items, and shipping, and then issue a partial refund. In your case, depending on what category the item was in and the FVF %, lets say it was 12.9% the FVF's difference between the $24 and the $14 would be $1.29. Refund to the buyer $8.71.

No idea what is going on. I don;t recall that ever happening to me unless the buyer paid in full and then I sent a refund afterward.

If you adjusted the shipping on an Invoice and then the Buyer paid the fees should be correct.

Fees are based on the total amount that the Buyer paid. It is on your Transaction Details for the sale the amount the Fees are based on. Fees can not be based on anymore than the Buyer paid.

If a partial refund is given after the Buyer has paid then you would have already paid Fees on the amount prior to the refund. If the refund is after item is paid for there should be a credit of the Fees. This is a long as it was all done thru eBay.

I believe any fee credits would appear on the refund transaction, though, not on the original transaction.

if you were charged fees on shipping that was not paid by the buyer you did something wrong....if the buyer paid for all (individually), then you combined and saved the buyer some money, your partial refund to the buyer would have reflected a final value fee credit to you....

if you sent a combined invoice with the proper shipping amount (discounted) the buyer would have paid that invoice, and fees would have been charged on the invoiced amount.....

ebay does not 'charge' the customer shipping....you do.....you are the sole determiner of the shipping total....not ebay, not usps, not fedex....not some gremlin in your computer

if you issue a partial refund due to shipping (combined) and did not receive an FVF credit, then there is a problem
