eBay sure has changed!

It's been a few years since I bothered with eBay. Covid extended my lack of selling so it's just been a while. I come back to find that PayPal is now a thing of the past. Ok, fine. I sell an item only to be told that I will receive payment directly to my account once the buyer has received my item. In what world does anybody mail an item without payment first? Oh, and then, after they've received it, it takes an additional 3 days to land in my account because of wire processing times.... WHAT HAPPENED TO EBAY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Paypal was such a much needed middleman for this platform. Instant payment is a must in any platform. eBay has made a vital mistake. We should see an emergence of a new platform soon to combat this penny smart and pound foolish mentality. Happens every time. I really thought eBay was smarter than this. Did they get a new CEO who thought he would fix something that was never broken or something?

New or returning seller have an up to 30 day payout on the funds. Buying does not count, only selling. Returning seller need to reestablish themself.

Pay-pal fronted the money, it was never really there at the time of payment, it took a few days for the funds to truly be available.

It sells, they pay, you ship, or your funds could continue to be held.

accepts crypto too?

All newish sellers have their money held for awhile.  When I opened a second ID after selling for years, I had my money held until I had established myself on this new ID...and this was back with paypal.

Where is your buyer located?  You could always drive it over to them if it's immediate payment you're looking for.

In the old world of eBay and PayPal.

PayPal used to put holds on eBay funds, too.

PP fronted the sellers funds before the transaction was complete, try finding a payment processor that does that today.

Sorry you got so many snarky responses.  That's another change in eBay.  I remember when we were able to start eBay groups where peopled helped one another.  Now we have this resource which concentrates mostly on tapping down complaints.  But just wait, you will find there are so many changes - seems like every week or so, there is a change of some sort.  Looking over the past year or so, I can't think of one that was helpful, more efficient, or needed.  It has gotten so convoluted and controlling.  I have been trying out several other venues.

Wait until you have a sale and before you can print a shipping label, all your funds are transferred to your bank.  Then they give you a choice of paying with PayPal or transferring money back from your bank.  Well, at least it is cheaper.

Welcome back, by the way.

The reason those complaints are "tapped" down is that it's the same complaint over and over and over. No one bothers to look up the subject. They just start typing the same rant and expecting the mob to join in. Those days are gone.

Many other selling platforms are going to the 'deposit in checking acct.' routine. You have been paid the moment it says you've been paid (doesn't matter if you have the money yet or not, it's coming).

This processor that eBay was forced to use, processes like most other credit card processors- they don't pay you until they have the money from the credit card to forward to you (the 3 day part); the 'other' hold is because you are a new seller.

Any platform? I get paid every two weeks on Amazon. What are these other platforms that have instant payment?

On one of my selling accounts that does not get much action, I got PayPal holds for years.

Welcome back to Ebay.  As in most things in life, things change.  You have lots to get caught up on before you start selling again so you can keep your account healthy.

While most of us did love using PayPal, it is not an option for sellers anymore.  Buyers can use it, but not sellers.  Ebay has moved to their own money processing program which is what most sites have done long before Ebay did it.  It is only the much smaller sites that don't have their own money processing program.

Another note, PayPal has significantly raised their fees a year or more ago now.  So it is much more expensive to use now.

Managed Payments [MP] takes a little getting use to, but it is a good program and is growing all the time.  More enhancements will be coming soon that most will likely be very happy about.

Have you signed up for MP?  If not, you need to take care of that right away or it will hold up your money longer than it otherwise would.

Ebay has had a rule for many years that pertains to New Seller and sellers that have been away from selling for 90+ days. The following is the policy that outlines why you money is likely on hold.

https://export.ebay.com/en/fees-and-payments/payments/payment-holds/

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/payments-hold?id=4816&&...

Please review the below link carefully. It contains very important information as to how Ebay needs to see the information you provide them on your account. It is likely easier to change your Ebay account to match your bank account if you find there to be a difference.

Yup that, and tapped down with a presentation of facts.  It is what it is.

(and yes, a bit of unneeded snark is thrown in daily)

The ranters are just looking for someone to agree with them. That is it.

They don't want any answers or any information.  Just agree with the rant.

I think many need to ease up.  This is a old subject to most of us, but for the OP it is new as they have been away from selling for a few years.  There is nothing wrong with their questions.
