eBay refunding orders while en route

Shipped something priority the week before Christmas. Tracking shows it’s still being processed. The post office it went through had to close half the building for contact tracing so it’s super delayed. USPS.com warns of unprecedented delays. Buyer opened a case and eBay ruled in their favor. I think it’s insane eBay is doing this to sellers during a pandemic. I’m going to try and intercept the package but my feeling is I just got scammed out of $800. Has anyone had experience with appealing these types of decisions because of covid delays?

If you go up to seller news then announcements, you can read the updated seller protections due to the USPS delays. It doesn't work as you are stating. Buyer can't just open a case and be ruled in their favor, it's not like that. There is a process for everything. First buyer has to open an item not received case after the estimated date of delivery has passed by one day. Then you as the seller have the obligation to enter the tracking info, to prove that you shipped within your allotted time. After you do that, the case then extends the delivery time by another ten days. All this occurs before any refund is considered.

For this amount you absolutely should place an intercept, worth paying for that not to lose $800. Hopefully it will be sent back to you. Best of luck to you....

Re: eBay refunding orders while en route

A week before Christmas, most folks knew USPS was on it's knees, or worse.  UPS would have delivered that item on time.

Best of luck on the intercept, hope it works out.

Re: eBay refunding orders while en route

Unfortunately, the Dispute is Not Received, not Not Shipped.

EBay may agree that you have done nothing wrong, but the buyer doesn't have the money and doesn't have the product.

It has been in transit for 33 days.

There is no scam.

Did you include Signature Confirmation of Delivery? If you did not, you would have been even madder when the parcel was delivered, because without Signature eBay would refund anyway.

You can use the insurance you purchased from USPS to claim on the delayed delivery.

You may be able to use your business insurance or even household insurance for a claim. Depends on the policy.

And keep an eye on the tracking.

When it shows delivery, send a polite not to the buyer apologizing for the delay and asking that the refund be returned . (With or without the shipping charge.)

You can include a Paypal Send Money invoice "to make clearing the transaction easier."

There was an extension because tracking showed it’s still on its way however that too passed and it’s still not there. Other packages made it okay, but I think the outbreak at the facility messed this one up as it got stuck for a long time.

Re: eBay refunding orders while en route

I believe if ebay ruled in buyers favor without you willingly refunding you can file an appeal should the package later show delivered, which may result in you getting your money back. However, your best bet is to file the package intercept.  Do it asap on the USPS website. Just enter 'package intercept' in the search bar for the process.

Did you ship with signature confirm, as it's required on $750+. If not, you definitely need to intercept.

If you insured, you would win any USPS lost package claim.

Hope things work out!

Sounds like an intercept will work best for you. Hopefully it does....

Re: eBay refunding orders while en route

This just happened to me today.  My shipping info and tracking are available to my customers as soon as I print a shipping label.  At least I thought so.
Customer opened a case today and I had $50.00 taken from my account just that fast. Now I am responsible to try to get my money back.  Customer will may eventually get his purchase.  I am out 50 bucks.  Wha-wha

Re: eBay refunding orders while en route

Just filed a package return with USPS and it cost me $14.65 ☹️ so far.  I’m not going to come out ahead but hopefully I will get my merchandise back.

Re: eBay refunding orders while en route

All items that are shipped Priority are insured. You should file a claim with USPS and you should get the value of your package returned to you. Hope this helps.
