eBay fees

So now eBay raised their final value fee to 12.9% (+.30!) for most categories. Okay, everything is going up, BUT charging their fee on the state sales tax they now tack on is a little much. I have nothing to do with that, and I don't appreciate eBay making more money from me by doing that. Is there a lawyer out there reading this that will start a class action suit against eBay? It's gotta be illegal. (or at least really greedy) WAKE UP EBAY.

😂 Didn't Wells Fargo try that a few years back? I think I had to pay to call them to talk about fees not so long ago.

This is a great idea, eBay should start charging for any CS issues sellers have.

Re: eBay fees

That is the way you prefer to see it.  There is no law or requirement that says that is the only way this information can be presented.

Re: eBay fees

That really depends on what other site you sell on.  Yes some sites are less expensive to sell on and some are more expensive.  It is a mixed bag.  Ebay is not the most expensive by far.  But when deciding what venue to sell on you need to look at more than just the fees you have to pay.  It will do you no good to pay lower fees if your sales are much lower too, would be one thing to consider.  It is a much larger issue than just fees.

Where do you get your information?

Please do not offer information or advice that is patently false.

Re: eBay fees

On eBay, the BUYER is charged the appropriate state sales tax.

On eBay, the SELLER is charged the final value fee on the amount of state sales tax.

Re: eBay fees

Please explain how "someone here" (just a regular eBay buyer or seller) could get anyone suspended?

Because, if that's true, I have a rather long list.

Isn't it amazing how when some members get put on a vaca from the community it is always someone else's fault.  Someone reported them or someone was out for them.  It couldn't possibly be what they posted /what they said actually broke one of the Community rules!!!

Re: eBay fees

You'll love eBay even more when they begin charging the promoted listing fee (if you have PLs enabled) on the sales tax portion too. That starts on June 1st. Anyone wanna justify how that's the cost of eBay collecting sales tax?

Many will tell you that eBay charging the full FVF just the cost of collecting sales tax. Meanwhile eBay easily profits in the 9 figure amount each year on collecting sales tax. You're welcome to do the 10 minute math based on eBay's 10-K filings or see one of my other posts. Do you truly think eBay's cost basis for collecting the sales tax a buyer pays is 10%+?

You know who loses in all of this the most? The customer. eBay continues to get away from focusing on the customer experience. Businesses that know their numbers have to account for the fees eBay charges on collecting the sales tax portion. I'm definitely not paying for it, the customer is. Am I happy with that? No, I like to save people money.

I would be happy to pay a reasonable payment processing fee on the sales tax amount like a traditional business does, but a 10%+? Of course there is some other costs such as reporting, accounting, etc. With my business size, I'd pay $1,800 a year for software that's automated, not to mention much of that cost would be reimbursed through state rebates. I would save roughly $12,000 a year versus what eBay charges. This would be for very little work.

We all know eBay's overhead for collecting the sales tax is no higher than 5%. You all are being fleeced and many defend it. This is how eBay gets away with it.

Re: eBay fees

Ebay has always had Moderators of and on the threads.  They are well labeled posts as being an Ebay employee, we fondly call them blues as the entire post is outlined with blue and the Ebay logo in the upper right corner.

The threads are full of various posters complaining about fees, some about law suits, and lots of negative things about Ebay.  Those posts are still out there as long as the poster adheres to the Rules of the Community.  Sometimes posters don't like taking responsibility that they have actually said something or done something that is against the published rules, so the deflect and try to put the blame elsewhere instead of learning what they did wrong and moving forward with the new knowledge.

Re: eBay fees

agreed

bait switch to take the money out on the end of the sale

FREE Listings is a lie as they take the money out to list after the sale and greedily take 12.9 percent out on each sale- I live poverty level and my rent went up 400 a month-I am making LESS money now and ebay is a greedy cash cow cooperation- I will check out etsy and poshmark - Selling fees ebay took for years from me and I did not use their labels -I packaged and drove each item to the postal and stood in line! Just exploiting poor people who do not have a big business!

@fallsong26

You might find it helpful to understand the different kinds of fees there are on Ebay or any other marketplace for that matter.

Where is the "bait and switch"?  What did they "bait" you with, the offer of no listing fee?  That isn't baiting, it is a fact.  We have lots of free listing, no listing fee.

And where is the "switch"?  What did you get instead.  You were not charged a listing fee.

Ebay does offer free listings.  It is NOT a lie.  You were able to list your item for free.

You somehow feel entitled to have get FREE SELLING fees too.  Ebay has never offered you or anyone else free selling fees.  You want to use this site at no cost to you.  How is that fair?  Ebay provides you with a service and platform in which to try and sell your items.  How could they possibly stay in business if they did that for free?  And why would you expect them to do it for free?

You will find that ALL Marketplaces, Etsy and Poshmark included have selling fees.  I don't know why you feel as if some company should give you these services for free.  They don't owe you anything.

If you are so concerned about your selling fees why did you make the choice to pay full retail for shipping your items.  That is doing nothing but costing you money that you don't have to spend.  Electronic labels, whether purchased through Ebay or not are a good deal cheaper than paying full retail at the post office and you get the benefit that you can ship from your home.

Ebay has no idea what your financial circumstances are.  They don't ask you for any of that information.  Therefore you are trying to say they are discriminating against you when they don't have any idea what your financial situation is, your race, creed or color.

A little something you might consider.  On the negative you have on your account.  If your listing actually stated the shipping amount on it, you can contact Ebay and get that negative removed as buyers aren't allowed to change the purchase agreement after the purchase, nor are sellers for that matter.  So contact Ebay and get it removed.  It will be better for the health of your account to have it removed.

Rockstar is a designation made by Ebay, NOT the seller.  Just like you didn't designate yourself as an "adventurer".  They have different names for different levels of participation on the Community threads.

So you are blaming @alcoforever for something they don't control.  Similar to blaming Ebay because you feel everything should be free for you.
