CNBC contributor just said "bleak futures versus box stores along eBay international failing".. I have to ask- will eBay continue to go after sellers with even more fees to cover another round of corporate failures?

It's a stock. eBay stocks would be where they put sellers who behave badly.

I've been saying this out here for months. The new $600 1099-K reporting trigger for U.S. sellers will make them leave the market.
This Youtube video has over 400 sellers stating they are leaving:
ebay Talk - Will Sellers Leave Due to IRS changes in 2022?
That's just on ONE YOUTUBE VIDEO!!!
The fees are just going to keep increasing the more sellers leave. Not even eBay's fault.

eBay headquarters in San Jose, California.
Photographer: David Paul Morris/BloombergEBay Inc. warned investors that first-quarter sales will miss estimates as shoppers return to pre-pandemic spending habits.
The shares fell about 12% in extended trading.
Sales will be $2.43 billion to $2.48 billion in the period ending in March, the San Jose, California-based company said Wednesday in a statement. Analysts, on average, estimated $2.6 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Earnings, excluding some items, will be $1.01 to $1.05 per share, missing estimates of $1.07.
The momentum EBay gained during the pandemic when people abandoned stores for websites has been fading as shoppers return to in-person browsing and buying. Chief Executive Officer Jamie Iannone maintains the company’s advertising and payments businesses can boost profits even if total spending on the site falls.
The shares fell to a low of $47.72 in extended trading after closing at $54.59 in New York. The stock has dropped more than 11% over the past 12 months.
EBay ended the quarter with 147 million active buyers, down 9% from a year earlier. Gross merchandise volume, which is the value of all goods sold on the site, fell 10% to $20.73 billion in the period ended Dec. 31.
EBay has been divesting pieces of itself to appease activist investors discouraged by slow growth. In November, EBay said it completed the sale of just more than 80% of its South Korean online marketplace to local retailer E-Mart Inc. for $3 billion.

It is not eBay stock falling the last couple of days. The stock price of Etsy is at a 52 week low dropping from over $300 to $115. The stock of Home Depot dropped by more than $30.00 since earnings release on Tuesday.
Most of the stay at home stocks like EBay, Etsy, Home Depot, Docusign, Peloton, and many others have dropped like a rock.

Etsy is in the same boat as eBay in regards to the 2022 1099-k $600 tax triggers for U.S. sellers so sure, they will fall right along side eBay.
Home depot down ? Of course, no one can afford a piece of **bleep** wood.

YES , they will ,

It's the drop in GMV and monthly users that are the big red flags. I don't buy the post pandemic change in behavior as being the sole reason. eBay's interface is outdated. Finding is difficult. And for many would be buyers, there may be too many items to wade through.
"Chief Executive Officer Jamie Iannone maintains the company’s advertising and payments businesses can boost profits even if total spending on the site falls." Both these income streams are tied to increasing costs for sellers through promoted listings and higher FVF fees (and including sales tax in the mix).
When your business model moves from growth to get more from existing customers, that is a very bad thing and the start of a hard to correct downward spiral.

Yup and all those sellers leaving all online platforms in the U.S (not just eBay) are also taking their purchasing dollars with them. Especially in hobbies.

Yep, going to be another huge hit in April when USPS adds a $4 surcharge for packages over 22" and $15 on packages over 30", will cut 50% of my inventory for sure

Smart move - sign up for a UPS.com account and get a free thermal printer and labels too!!
For some things, actually UPS was cheaper previously and definitely after April's changes.
