Beginning last week, if you cancel an order in selling manager (because customer doesn't want item), eBay is immediately relisting the item at auction. Anybody else seeing this? It's wreaking havoc on my inventory software since items are being relisted without my doing.

Easily relist cancelled items and remorse returns for single-quantity listings
Starting in May 2019, when you successfully complete a cancelled item or remorse return for a single-quantity listing we'll provide you with a more convenient way to relist the item, which will help you resell the item and manage your business more efficiently. Upon completing a return or cancellation, a checkbox will be preselected for you that defaults to an automatic relisting of your item.
Cancelled item eligibility
The easy-relist default setting will be displayed and preselected for cancelled items that:
The buyer initiated and you approved
You cancelled due to an issue with the buyer’s address
Is for a single-quantity listing
Remorse return eligibility
The easy-relist default setting will be displayed and preselected for remorse returns if:
Tracking shows the item was returned to you
You provided a full refund
The remorse return is for a single-quantity listing
You will be able to deselect the preselected check mark in the default checkbox if you don't wish to relist the returned item.
I would urge you to read the accompanying FAQ as well.:

This is an absoluitely AWFUL change, yet again with Ebay. I recently sold an item, and the buyer contacted me that there was an issue with it. It was a low priced item, so I worked it out with him, and gave him a full refund, as it was damaged in shipping. I told him not to bother sending it back, as it wasn't worth it, and we both left happy, even if it was unfortunate. I canceled the sale after and fully refunded him, as he didn't want it.
So this morning, I noticed one of my 50 listings for May was missing, and I didn't list anything in may yet. I watch closely now, as because of the RIDICULOUS GTC forced nonsense, I can no longer list every couple days, so I list only once a month now or at most twice a month, so I can keep things from rolling over (That's another topic, but wer all know many hate this). In any event, I noticed it was the listing for the item that was damaged that got auto listed last night. I don't even HAVE the item to relist! What is wrong with ebay? It's utterly ridiculous. If I WANTED to relist it I would have!!!! If I didn't catch it, it would have been a phanthom listing that I only would have found if someone bought it, and I would have been screwed as I DON NOT HAVE THE ITEM to sell! Ebay, let ME decide what I list, not your dumb "auto list", auto relist, an GTC. I wish there was a viable alternative to this place it's getting more and more time consuming to catch all the horrible "enhancements" they roll out.

I don't see anywhere it says it will relist FP listings as auctions.
How would they know what start price to set? Oh wait......99c with FS, right?
All in the name of "helping you sell".

There are other sellers that think this is a useful change. When used correctly we don't have to go through additional steps to relist the item. Of course, THE SELLER needs to pay attention to the new options!
The new checkbox is right there, so uncheck it! It's OPTIONAL, so in this case eBay (almost) did it right, they didn't relist it automatically and force you to remember to go in, end the listing and then delete it.
The only downside is that I've heard it's frequently checked by default. As a new feature it would have been better to have it UNCHECKED by default. Then in a few months review how often it was used and then decide if checking by default would be appropriate.
Overall, it's a good feature. eBay needs to do a better job in drawing attention to such changes, but all in all I see it as a positive.

I'll weigh in by saying that I had one computer that had to be cancelled due to an invalid address. I chose to relist the item and it relisted the listing with A QUANTITY of 125 Computers!! I wanted to relist the ONE Computer that didn't sell. That alone is a huge problem

Also I'm not sure if the checkbox is even showing up on the app 😕

It is frequently checked by default (as if it sometimes isn't), isn't how it works. That is how they designed this change. That makes it feel like a gotcha, since many will not see that tiny box that was never there in the past. If it sincerely is intended to help, then just offer it and we can use it if we see it and want to.
When I read it in the update, I thought it was a silly thing to have worked on over all the real problems out there, but now I see what may be the underlying reason. I never once thought relisting an item was a time consuming process that needed attention.

So what is with the big blue button underneath the tiny auto checked relist button? Does it change to a new blue button that does not mention relisting?

Imho any setting which will result in fees for the seller should NEVER be checked by default.
