e-Bay Policy

I tried to list a cookie jar but e-Bay took it down 3 times! After finally finding chat, I was told this last time that she has big eyes and lips!  I told them I DID NOT make the jar. The smart ass guy told me "but you listed it" What the heck??  I  have seen some awful things listed on e-bay.  e-Bay has gotten, in my views too high in fee's and now this.  Time to move on.

The problem is everything is offensive to somebody no getting around it. One of the things I like about consignment auction houses is generally they could care less. If you happen not to like an item that is posted or offered for sale their view is ignore it and move on.

BTW you may want to revise or remove your Three phrases statement somebody will find "Goodwill to Men" offensive because it leaves out women, somebody already mentioned the issue with "Holly Jolly", some people simply find Christmas to be offensive and I am sure that there are those that would take exception to it being "it's the BEST time of the YEAR". As far as Peace on Earth depends on how you view that as a warring faction but I am sure some would disagree, especially those who are part of the Military Industrial Complex.

Wow……but things like used panties are still on here…..

Yes they are......AND....also PROHIBITED

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/used-clothing-policy?id=4281

Like the OP's prohibited item these things get listed and then removed when found or reported.

The only difference is that used undies have been prohibited since forever while the offensive cookie jar has only been banned for about 5 years or so.

The other question that no one seems to have asked: What did the title say? Was it just the visual or was there something in the headline that triggered the bots? A particular word or phrase that eBay watches for. Such as the recently mentioned "Holly Jolly"?

Hi @julytwin

Sounds like you tried to list an 'Aunt Jemima' type cookie jar.  That ... as well as many other so-called Black Americana items (with exagerated, mocking features) are no longer allowed to be listed on eBay.

Once an item has been removed ... it is on an eBay bot's radar ... and future listings of the item will be found quickly.  You will start receiving restrictions until you're eventually suspended permanently.

I just noticed you listed the item yet again.  Wow!   Showing a photo of just the back of the jar didn't fix your problem.  It is still a banned item ... and very likely will be pulled again.

What part of 'eBay does NOT want you to list this item!' do you not understand?

Oh the OP understands quite well!

I can not show you the front because e-Bay states she is against their policies and has taken her down 3 times!

My next door neighbor has a large statue of a jockey,  a cookie jar and a large man with a watermelon on his well cover.    They are all facing in my direction along with a Trump sign.

He is white,   I am bi racial..

You need to take that cookie jar down.   There is a reason it is not allowed.

Imagine being willing to have one’s account suspended by insisting on reposting the same racist cookie jar.

That’s a weird hill to die on.

Here is one of the announcements you apparently missed regarding the listing of these items ... and one of the relevant paragraphs:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/Commemorating-Juneteenth/ba-p/31018439

>>   As some of you already know, we are also tightening our restrictions to ensure eBay is free of Black Americana items that portray negativity or stereotypes based on race or ethnicity, or that are discriminatory or demeaning. While some of these items have been permitted for educational or artistic purposes in the past, they may also perpetuate bigotry and intolerance. You can review the updated policy here.  I’m sure you’ve seen other brands make similar moves and this definitely reflects how our society is evolving. Every day we strive to do better and ensure eBay is a safe, inclusive and respectful marketplace.    <<

You broke policy by listing an offensive item (it's considered offensive by ebay, we don't need to discuss that further), and you think the eBay rep who correctly pointed out that you did in fact list it, is a smart aleck?

I'm sorry but I must be missing something.  When did describing an item such as a cookie jar as having big eyes & lips become offensive in eBay's eyes?  What else was included in the description?

While I'm not sure that a comment like "I did not make it" by the OP was entirely appropriate, I don't see where it justifies a sarcastic comment from a, supposedly trained, CSR would be called for.

Frankly, there is something here that I'm not quite getting.  What information isn't included about this situation is not included in the initial post that would make this scenario make more sense?

Relisting this item now for the fourth time shows that a sense of entitlement is not a good thing. Obviously, Ebays rules are for everybody else..not the op.
