How to process refund for item not recieved?

USPS lost an item I sold and I want to give the buyer a refund. If the buyer clicks Item not recieved (or what?) is this the process to allow me to give a refund? Since I can't see what the buyer sees, I don't know what to instruct them to do.

How do I cancel 8 sales from the same buyer? Ebay won't combine them per customers request.
