Does anyone know why buyers ask weights of Bakelite backgammon pieces?

A couple of times, I have had buyers ask the weights of Bakelite backgammon pieces. I've thought about asking them why but figured I wouldn't get an answer, or at least a truthful one. Does anyone know about this?
