YES!!!
The problem with guaranteed delivery is that it wasn't made available to ALL sellers for the holidays.
I wouldn't offer it if it was available to me, though. I've gone along with most things up until now, like offering 30 day returns. But I draw the line at guaranteed delivery AND free returns.

I have no problems with it.
I use the Handling Time Option so I guarantee I will ship it the same day if bought by 12 pm, then I guess eBay guarantees a delivery date, so as long as I get a scan when I am supposed to, I am OK, no matter what the PO does.

My late shipment rate has spiked due to this. I have also had several claims already where the customer is upset that I did not deliver their package on the day I guaranteed it. I send them a message stating that I only guarantee that that the package be handled by a day and that if they call ebay they are the ones who guarantee the 3 day delivery and that they will give them a $5 credit since it is late. The delivery times are just not realistic for what the USPS can handle, especially at this time of year. Amazon can guarantee it becuase they ship UPS 2-day which is guaranteed. I am shipping USPS first class, which is not guaranteed, it is estimated. If I could get Amazon UPS shpping rates to ship 2-day this would make sense. If ebay was going to offer this they should have first worked a reduced shipping rate out with a shipping carrier that could guarantee the packages be delivered in 2 or 3 days.

If you pick the handling time option, that's guaranteeing your performance, as all you need to do is get an acceptance scan within your 1 day handling time.

So as usual if you have a neglectful and/or lazy carrier this could spell disaster for you?

Yep - which means if you have one of those, you should probably go to the PO.
But unless you are selling the latest stuff for Christmas right now, I don't see too many buyers even using the GD selections.

I don't think the carriers themselves guarantee delivery.

I'm guessing, yes guessing the reason eBay offers this Guaranteed Delivery assumes sellers will hope it's an incentive for buyers to chose one seller over another.
I have a suspicion some buyers assume this means the goods will be in their hands in three days, especially if shipping is free. They don't know there really is no such thing as free shipping.
For whatever pitfalls occur using this option in your listing is outweighed by the rewards and you feel it's helps you sell more, use it.
Personally, I would not want to be aligned and dependent on an agency that loses $20 Billion a year and has been doing it for years. I wonder where the money comes from to pay those loses?

I SELL TOO MANY ITEMS TO STAND IN LINE EVERY DAY. MY PO MISSES SCANS ABOUT 40% OF THE TIME ON A CONSISTANT BASIS. THE STATION MANAGER TELLS ME THE SCANS ARE A COURTESY TO THE CUSTOMER AND HAPPEN ONLY IF THEY HAVE TIME.... I AM NOT WILLING TO TAKE THAT CHANCE.

They need to be educated.
