amazon disclosure

...I recently made a purchase on ebay and the item(s) came from amazon. I deliberately choose to shop on ebay to avoid dealing with amazon...not because I begrudge a seller making a couple of extra bucks or anything like that...but because I simply don't want to have anything to do with a company like amazon. This is the second time this has happened...I believe I should have the right to decide where my money goes...as little as it is...therefore I believe ebay sellers should be required to disclose that they are doing business with amazon, so that buyers can go somewhere else.

Price gouging applies strictly to essential items in short supply.
If applied loosely to anything else, you have to establish a benchmark...is it 10% over MSRP/average retail?...50%?...200%?. It becomes subjective....and that's another argument.

Or to something like medicines. Pharmaceutical companies are the most egregious price gougers out there imho

@phanoto

Wow. You do know that every item for sale at any store or on-line was purchased cheaper than you paid. Did you know that almost all gas station mini marts buy many of their items from Sam Club ? Unbelievable people now think they can NEG a seller who makes a profit. What's next ?

It is not up to you "to ask." That is laughable.

Also some of those sellers are abusing their Amazon prime accounts too.

I fully understand why you choose not to do business with Amazon, and they laugh at the small businesspeople they are ruining who still defend them.

@themagicmountain

I suggest you stop buying items on line if you don't like where the items come from. You will never know where the items you purchased came from as that is the sellers business and not yours.

That reminds me of someone who was very angry with me that I dared to charge them 20 dollars for an item that cost 10 dollars 17 years ago.

You can't stop there. It that's what you want to know, what about what other people want to know? eBay needs to go all the way!

I think every seller should have to disclose where they obtain all their merchandise, not just what is coming from Amazon. Because another buyer may dislike a different company just as much as you dislike Amazon.

And sellers should have to tell us how much they paid for each item, because some buyers may not want to have anything to do with a seller whose profit margin does not fall within a range that they find acceptable.

Sellers should also have to tell us their immigration status, because some buyers may not want to do business with someone who is in the country legally.

Sellers should have to disclose how much of their net income they give to charity, because some buyers may not want to have anything to do with a seller who is too greedy and does not donate enough.

And what about intolerance? Sellers should have to disclose their position on same-sex marriage and polygamy.

And fiscal responsibility? Sellers should have to tell us who they voted for so buyers can choose to only support sellers who voted for people who voted to decrease the deficit. Or against abortion. Or for gun control.

Ahd who did the seller cast a vote for on The Voice? Some buyers might not want to support people who voted for a country singer over a soul singer.

If Amazon is the supplier for a drop ship seller, how does the seller make any money?

Is the seller adding his or her margin to the Amazon price? When the seller has to pay eBay 10% plus an PayPal,  the sellers listing price has to be even higher yet.  This tells us we should all check with Amazon before bidding on eBay.

Or, could it be Amazon is cloaking their name as just another seller.  Does Amazon charge a buyer for sales tax as they do in some states?

Re: amazon disclosure

If I had some merchandise stored in an Amazon warehouse and had Amazon ship it to my eBay customers, I would want to tell my customers in my listings that it would be shipped from Amazon, and I would tell them why.

I'm kinda curious... do you think eBay would approve of such a disclosure in a listing here?

Re: amazon disclosure

To avoid, you could always ask before buying.

Wait a minute... ASK?...

Are you suggesting that an eBay seller is going to send a reply to an eBay buyer, via eBay Messages, that contains the word "Amazon" in it?  LOL!

I think they can do that twice before eBay forever suspends them, if I read the UA and the replies from eBay empolyees here correctly...

Re: amazon disclosure

I had an issue with this a couple weeks ago.  I have purchased bubble wrap from Amazon and I always seemed to get **bleep** thin and hard to tear, so I came here to Ebay, for my next purchase.  I purchased some bubble wrap, and paid more than I usually do to get hopefully a better quality wrap.  I recieved my package from Amazon, marked as a gift, and it was the exact **bleep** bubble wrap I was trying to avoid.   If I had known he was shipping from Amazon, I would not have bought from him.  I know it is not illegal or anything, but I did feel misled, and I have two rolls of **bleep** bubble wrap again 🙂

Just so you know the bleeps they gave me in the post were not swear words. Was using a milder version, but they still didn't like it 🙂

Umm, It absolutely is. No seller is going to offer the information as standard practice so if you want any chance of knowing before purchase it is up to the buyer to ask or resign themselves to the fact that it may come from Amazon. To think otherwise is what is laughable.

As you can see, you won't get a lot of support here.  But feel free to stop by the Chat later today and add your voice to the calls to stop this practice:

I don't think the op will get anything but lip service there either. How much money do you think ebay makes off dropshippers every year? Requiring sellers to disclose sources encourages buyers to eliminate the middleman ebay is the middleman. This discussion is nothing but a waste of time.

As I said before, in this case you will know when the package is delivered to your door and you see the label says Amazon.  So no trade secrets here.

And there are many consumers for religious, ethical, etc reasons do not shop at a certain store.

So again, if you buy your merchandise at the $ store, bring it home, and then ship it out, then that is your business, unless of course, you forget to remove the label or tag.

But if you are a dropshipper where you never lay eyes on the product, as a buyer I would like to know that.

New products may be different.  I shop vintage only.  I will use diamonds as an example.

I will not buy from a drop shipper who does not have that diamond in hand but relies on a third party's assessment of it.

So yes if you are a dropshipper I want to know about it so I can make an informed decision to shop elsewhere.

And why the need to say Amazon.  The euphenism (The River) seems to be universally recognized here.
