Zero Views

I'm selling my items nearly every day, but everytime I view my listings they ALL  (250 of them) say ZERO VIEWS. Is this my computer's fault or a glitch on eBay's end? It happens quite often to me. Anyone else having this problem??

Re: Zero Views

I've now called 3 times and complained. Each time it is fixed for 1 day and then goes back to being screwed up again. It's showing dashes now. I even got a phone voicemail thanking me for pointing it out and saying that is was fixed ?!?!?! I don't know what to do at this point.

For those on this thread who don't understand why this is important, the number of views is an essential piece in helping determine my price point for the next time I list, especially for items that may be for sale for a while and which you are testing at different pricing levels and/or Best Offer. I like to know that I got 16 views at one price and 3 views at another, I keep track.

I would think that how quickly something sells at a specific price point would be much more important. If you price something at $20.00 and it sells almost immediately, you up the price on the next one. If that one sells fast, you up it again. If it slows down or doesn't sell, then you've found your price.

Views during this entire process mean virtually nothing. Someone accidentally clicks on your item, there's a view. You post here and members go look at what you sell, there are views. You list an item, there are 1 to 3 bot views.

There is one and only one view that counts and that is the one from the person who buys it.

Re: Zero Views

I also keep track of how many views and watchers my items get.

Re: Zero Views

I also keep track of how many views and watchers my items get. The majority of my items are one of a kind, in other words, I don't have multiples of the same item. So I use the views and watchers as a guide for relisting.

@jz-5682 "Yes, I've noticed that even your own views count. But I've had items listed for weeks and some have watchers, some have sold, but today all day it says ZERO Views on all of them!!"

That's rather interesting. I haven't noticed that problem from my end. I guess your situation is pretty unique since my view count has been increasing steadily. New listings will take some time to gather enough views. Hopefully, there are more buyers than viewers since eBay's algorithm puts listings that have sold on top over listings that only got views but no sale.

Re: Zero Views

So, mesh1248,  if I only have one of each thing that I sell then I will never get on top? That's a bummer. How does one learn the ebay algorithm? Well, anyway, my views have been showing lately, but it often happens that all of them will show zero or just a straight line, even though the day before they showed the number of views. It's just an annoying glitch I guess.

Re: Zero Views

I have a question about the views then. If you don’t have any views on the item does your position fall where your item is seen? I have had issues with my items not counting when someone looks at them and my sales since Valentine’s Day have dropped off a cliff. Thank you

@jz-5682 "if I only have one of each thing that I sell then I will never get on top?"

As long as your item sells on a continuous basis, then your listing will gradually be promoted to the top of the Best Match search results. The scary thing is when you put up a listing for everyone to see and people only viewed the listing, but never placed an order on that listing. In that case, you would have 0 sold but with so many views, it actually hurts your listings because the unsold listings will get pushed further down the search results, making it much harder for that item to sell among a sea of competitors. Honestly, I dislike eBay's Best Match algorithm since buyers who buy something on eBay's mobile app do not always scroll down to the bottom to see your listing. Too often, buyers usually buy from sellers that make it to the first few listings that they see on Best Match search results. Usually, sellers' listings that make it to the top are sellers that have a long history record of selling that item to buyers. In other words, sellers that have (e.g. 500+ sold on a listing) on eBay have much higher chance of getting more and more sales since eBay's algorithm (Best Match) tends to promote their listings more often and places them higher up on the Best Match search results. So what matters more to eBay's algorithm is the number sold for that listing and not the number of views that listing received. Getting too views without a sale will hurt your listing and eBay's algorithm will put your listing lower on the Best Match search results. I've been an eBay seller for 2 years, so I know how eBay's search algorithm operates behind the scenes.

Re: Zero Views

How can my item sell on a continuous basis when I never sell the same items? Each one is completely different from any other item I sell. View my listings and you'll see what I mean. I guess I'm at a disadvantage then.

I've been using Promoted Listings. Maybe it's working, I don't know. It's my first year of having 200+ listings up, since I'm not distracted with school anymore and can concentrate more on selling. But it just seems like I'm lowering and lowering my price on each item each month it doesn't sell, and with Promoted Listings I'm just paying more and more fees to eBay.

But, I can't complain too much. At least I can work from the comfort of my home on eBay.

@jz-5682 "How can my item sell on a continuous basis when I never sell the same items?"

If you sell different items, then you should make sure that each item you sell matches with the most appropriate selling category. The reason for this is to maximize your chance of getting potential buyers to buy from you. So the category that you place your item to list on eBay is critically important. Get that wrong and you will blow away your chances of selling that item, especially if it's listed in a category that is unrelated to the item that you are selling. After that, your titles, pictures, description and pricing are of next importance. Don't forget to include your item specifics in your listings. That will help the eBay search engine determine where to put your listing for everyone to see.

Promoted Listings can help, but make sure to set the exact amount that you are willing to pay to eBay if the item sells on Promoted Listings. I set all my Promoted Listings between 3.8% to 4.2% since most of my items are low value items (items that are less than $6 per unit), so I'm not willing to pay much ad fees to eBay. Of course, your case is different, so you will need to experiment and decide on the ad fee percentage that you can afford to pay while getting the optimum exposure you want for your listings.

Also, instead of lowering your price, you may also consider upping your price by 20%. Some sellers have reported increased sales after doing so since buyers may assume that if your item sells too low of a price, that your item must be **bleep**. Not saying that your item is **bleep**, but that is what buyers may think if your pricing is way too low, like lower than what they are comfortable with. There's always a market price. Try to sell your item for slightly less than the market price, but don't go to low or you may risk buyers passing off on your price as being too good to be true.

Other than that, good luck selling on eBay!

Re: Zero Views

Because the amount of views will give me an idea whether I should lower the price or not, or even remove the item for awhile. I have been noticing a fair amount of 0 views for quite a bit of my 300ish items. This does seem like a strange shift and I have been trying to figure out why.
