Why the negativity about Webinterpret?

I see a lot of posters fussing about being involuntarily registered with Webinterpret, but I don't see any specifics about why Webinterpret is bad for sellers.  I do sell to a limited number of international countries, so this would not be an issue for me.  Can anyone please explain why this is a bad situation?  Thanks!

I don't if any of the links above describe what I'm about to say, but this is the most important reason:

Webinterpret is incompatible with the eBay search engine.  It will create a large number of listings, and as a result, the core sales metrics that eBay uses to give your items visibility in search will be weakened.

I know ... It sounds counter intuitive that more exposure will give you less sales, but it can.  eBay prefers sellers that have a few listings that sell quickly MORE THAN a seller with a lot of listings that sit and gather dust.  In other words, when eBay decides to show your listing to a potential buyer, they want to show listings that they think will generate a sale ... if they don't think your inventory generates sales, then you don't get shown.

So, when you add webinterpret, it looks like you have 10 times more listings, but maybe only a few more sales.  That causes eBay to think that your inventory is undesirable - Instead of 1 sale per 1,000 impressions, now you are getting 2 sales per 10,000 impressions.  And, as a result, eBay begins reducing visibility over your entire inventory.  No visibility ... no sales.

We just went through this with a 2018 Shine Award finalist who saw their $60,000 in monthly sales drop to nearly zero after adding webinterpret.

Outstanding post, Orangehound.  Yes, we did see that with that Shine award finalist.

Excellent and very helpful explanation and analysis.

One seller recently had her account suspended and all her listings removed because of Webinterpret. I think that says it all.

Why the negativity about Webinterpret?

The program operated without my approval & without an active 'token' to allow the program to use my account. I went to my Site preferences, I scrolled down to third party authorizations & there was NO token for webinterpret. I contacted webinterpret & they removed the listings.
When I end an item, one item is removed, 6 items still remain, even though they are the same item.
When I increase from 1 item to 3, one item is increased the other 6 items are not.
These are the specifics.

Why the negativity about Webinterpret?

Here are four reasons... Webinterpret created over 1000 listings in our account:

  • Translations were not accurate and made it seem we had products that we did not have
  • Shipping costs did not reflect our costs to international destinations
  • The additions made to our listing count go over our monthly limit
  • This was done without our permission or knowledge

You may also want to check your PayPal account to make sure that there isn't a token there, as well.  PayPal has, or had, an association with Webinterpret, too.
