Why so many chargebacks?

It seems like I’m always getting chargebacks recently? 2 in two weeks. 4 in the last year? What is happening? Anyone else having an uptick in these frivolous chargebacks?

Re: Why so many chargebacks?

I recently received my first chargeback and I have been selling for years with 2 separate stores. He said he didn't recognize the transaction. The item was a $12.50 vintage chess set, so it's definitely not just about designer goods 🙂

So I called and couldn’t really get clarification, it seems the buyer may have used the wrong verbiage which may work out for me in this case. It’s also possible the buyer can change the reason.

Re: Why so many chargebacks?

Thank you for that additional information on one of your Chargebacks.  While I haven't seen that exact email before, it is wonderful that Ebay informed you that you did not have to do anything at all and that they are protecting you and your money under Seller Protection.  So it didn't cost you any time [other than to read the email] and it didn't cost you any money.

That is the best possible outcome.

Re: Why so many chargebacks?

Two words, free merchandise.

I will say some card billings can come quite late.  By then they have forgot what they bought.

A buyer on Ebay will not wind a Chargeback for not recognizing the charge.  Ebay is very versed in this type of claim and they handle it with no work on the seller's side.  Ebay takes care of it and the seller does not lose a dime.  It is also extremely likely that Ebay does not refund the CCC as they prove to them that the transaction was legit.

So no free merch with this kind of a Chargeback dispute.
