I know this seems like a weird question, and I am about to age myself. But with all the discussions, scams and issues with buyers, why sell on eBay? It never seemed to be this complicated the last time I sold on eBay over a decade ago, or even bought anything on eBay. Now I'm here trying to sell a bunch of stuff to save money and make room for another baby, and I'm starting to wonder would it just been easier to try and sell this on another platform, granted I may just run into the same issues.
I still have more items to sort through and list, so I'm not done with listing items.
I know I am reading the issues only, because why post positive stories on a message board, but reading this makes me wonder if all buyers are A***oles, and eBay has just plummeted in value.

These boards are the Complaints Department. It's where people come when they have problems and gripes, real and imagined.
Most sellers and buyers are honest and friendly, most transactions are smooth, most people expect and can handle change and they do so quietly and efficiently as eBay evolves.
And, just a suggestion: Rethink your No Returns policy. No Returns does not mean No Refunds, because ebay's Money Back Guarantee ensures refunds. What it does mean is that if eBay intervenes in a claim, it may take No Returns to mean you don't want the item back and the buyer will get the refund and item.
Anyhow, all you can do is bring yourself up to speed on the changes since you last sold here, and then see how it works out for you. personally. I hope it goes well for you.

If you read the Boards often, it will come to your attention that many problems, for both sellers and buyers are due to the fact that an alarmingly large number of eBayers do not read anything about buying or selling before they begin buying or selling.
Why are there sellers who have no idea what to do about buyers who do not pay and believe they have to contact someone at eBay to resolve the problem?
Why are there sellers who fall for the most blatant scam attempt? And these are not always new kids on the block.
Why are there buyers who have no idea what to do when/if a transaction goes sideways? And why are they willing to wait seemingly forever for their purchases and be surprised when the opportunity to resolve the problem with eBay has expired?

Usually when people put a number in their username like 59, they do that themselves w/o even saying anything. I opened my account when I was 29 years old, 20 years ago...do the math. 😁

I like to sell on ebay becasue its just not that hard to do
ebay still gives sellers a lot of choices in how to do things.I know how ebay likes things done
my merchandise is not suited for amazon but its a perfect fit with ebay.
the watch sellers I know never mention amazon....vintage watches and amazon do not mix

The largest issue is fast becoming changes to the site itself (i.e., the user interface); what I gather from these threads. By contrast, you take a nothing site like Bonanza and the problem is everything BUT the site itself (save for the payments method).

It's no picnic out there. I get eBay as the goto easy button choice. But I've decided on Shopify.

You will be paying through the nose for add ons, plug ins and all kinds of services to get your store up and running on Shopify including paying to get your stuff actually seen on the internet. The internet is a big big place now with lots of competition.

I sell because it works and most of the time it works extremely well.

I'm gonna get a Google Merchant Center account for advertising.

No Shopify extras. Basic is cheaper than an eBay store.

Please DO NOT take these boards as gospel. In fact if you never read these boards you would probably never even know there are scams out there. For every one person who posts a problem here there are probably 1,000,000 others who did not have a problem.

The question is why not to sell on EBay. Before Ebays new payout policy I was getting my funds immediately and never had any issues. Now that EBay forced me to put in my banking information those payments DO NOT come like EBay stated. Over a week now and I have funds still not released and even though the items were delivered with no issues I am still waiting on the funds. EBay was ONCE the number one place out there but I know many sellers that have left. It’s great if you are a buyer but not a seller any longer. Oh, and those fee’s EBay claimed would be less or the same...those fee’s are now higher than Ebay and PayPal fee’s combined from before. There are places out there you can sell, you just have to research.

23 years ago EBay was entirely different. With their new payout policy, that is full of LIES, EBay is only good if you are a buyer.

Stop it. You are saying Ebay is the only place to sell unless you just want your item to sit there and that is simply not true. That was a fact when EBay started, and even 15-20 years ago, but that is simply a lie now.

Why would anyone want to lose money as is what you just described?

EBay has taken choices from sellers. If they haven’t forced you to update to their new payout policy they will soon. When you’re sitting around waiting on those funds well after a week since the item was delivered, you will see the option EBay has for holding your funds for absolutely no reason. The fee’s are higher and payouts aren’t as quick like they claim. I was getting my money through Paypal immediately and never an issue with a buyer. Now they sit on the payment simply for greed....to gain interest from money that isn’t theirs.

For every one person that did have an issue there a million that did not? And this is why you don’t take what you say as the gospel. That is an outright lie.
