Why even bother???

I sold an item early last week, and it never made it to the customer's house.  They talked to the Post Office who apparently told them it was delivered to the wrong address, and they could not get it back, so to ask me for a refund (the nerve!).

Of course, I refunded the buyer their money as it was not their fault that they did not receive the item.  My frustration is that I not only lost the sale, but I lost the original price of the item, the time that it took me to shop/find the item, research and listing time and then packing time & materials, plus a trip to the post office to make sure it got there in 1 piece and was not crushed as it was fragile.  I did all of that work to end up with a negative transaction (a loss) due to the Post Office negligence ( I do not believe this buyer had any reason to lie about not receiving the package, as the tracking from post office shows that it was delivered, but not the exact address it was delivered to.)

While I enjoy re-selling, I do not enjoy losing money and this only seems to happen with my eBay sales, maybe I will do like thousands of others and get off this site - just expressing my frustration, I do not need the naysayers telling me what I did wrong and other unhelpful replies, as none of them will change the Facts!

Not saying you did anything wrong, just wondering if there was tracking and if so, what did it say?

If it showed delivered, you didn't need to refund.  But, I think I would've as well.

The one good thing is that all those costs you mentioned, including the loss of the item, are all tax deductible.

The tracking said it was delivered.  It did not say what address it was delivered to.

Did the buyer file an "INR"? If they did, you should have provided eBay with the tracking that shows it was delivered and the case would most likely be closed in your favor.

So it would be okay with you if, somehow, something you bought on eBay was delivered to an address other than your own, but, since tracking shows delivered, you would not be able to be refunded?

I assume you shipped it to the address on the ebay label?

If so, ebay would have backed you up in a INR dispute.

Nice of you to refund the buyer.

Good karma for you.

It did not say what address it was delivered to.

@ligu_7529

Was the address it was delivered to not  the address (provided by the buyer) on your mailing label?

It works both ways, you understand this, yes?  Yes.

My only question is did you check with the PO yourself? They know exactly where your package went because they have GPS and when they mark it delivered it plots where on their GPS. Never take someone's word without verification.

It happened to me years ago here. Tracking shows delivery but never received it and never got a refund.

I don't have all the facts but it sounds like a USPS error, in which case I believe the seller did the right thing by refunding the buyer, even if technically he did not have to.

If Buyer actually didn't get item I would take loss as seller and write off on taxes.

However, I don't know if I'd simply go by their word that they didn't get it.

Because the tracking showed delivered you could have won an item not received.

But I'm still questioning if you should win. Seems like everything is based on the customer reporting that the PO said something without any actual verification.

I assume you are filing a claim for ALL your costs against USPS, especially if you have them admitting they misdelivered it, right?

@dqdistribution

Yes, I would have contacted the P.O. as well.
