Why Am I Not Making Sells?

I started selling handcrafted wreaths on my eBay shop and have not made any sells. They have been on my shop for about 3 weeks now with no success. I tried to see what I was doing different compared to my competitors, but I have no clue what I’m doing wrong. I added more photos, changed the titles to what I think customers would search up, wrote and added new descriptions. I even have them sponsored by eBay. It seems like my items are not really being viewed. Is the pricing too high? Does the title need fixing? Am I being impatient? What should I change? EBay Account: wonderful_wreaths

I agree, and what is your point? A member cannot come here for help anymore?? Without getting rules stuffed down their face! If this board is not for helping other's then what is it for? "mg152" are you having a bad day?

Re: Why Am I Not Making Sales?

OP - I think your wreaths are very nice and the pictures are wonderful - as AC said - size or dimensions would help - as would putting Handmade or Handcrafted in the listing.

Don't be put off by some posters. People buy all sorts of items here but I would cross post your items to get as much exposure as possible. If you have a pinterest account - pin your listings there - FB acct - do the same. Join a couple of Ebay or seller FB groups where you can advertise your listings.

Sales have been slow here and there are a lot of similar items in your category - but I sell clothing and often times fetch more for the same item that another seller has cheaper. If you have another selling acct - just note that you've been an ebay seller for x amt of years and this acct is exclusively for your handmade items as sometimes buyers are leery of new sellers. It worked for me when I was starting my secondary acct.

Good luck!

Re: Why Am I Not Making Sales?

Yeah I saw absolutely NO point in posting that wall of rules, especially for a new member to the board seeking advice....

Is EVERY one in a bad mood... from Ebeneezer who hates Christmas... to people saying they are "out of season"

Many Christmas "seasonal" items have no season, Christmas stuff sells year round, decorations in particular often sell quicker and for more money in the Summer.... at Christmas time a lot of  normal folk have moved on to buying Presents and aren't looking to spending a lot on decorations.

Look for new ideas with less competition...

here is one for free - Welcome home military wreaths/service branch specific (army, navy Marine Corps, etc) with yellow ribbon...

Use social media...

and although some people don't like wreaths (as shown in this thread) some will pay god money for a nice one... THOSE are your target customers.....

OK that was a typo... maybe not "god money" but they will pay "good" money....

There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy.

There are more than one factor contributing to your lack of sales.  You are a new seller with no feedback.  Your prices with shipping are not competitive.  There are many wreaths, even handmade ones on eBay.

Try selling inexpensive items to build up your FB. You must be competitive.

Re: Why Am I Not Making Sales?

Your wreaths are lovely, but there are only 5 of them and they are really limited and nothing really that extraordinary....

Guys, please don't beat me up because I REALLY REALLY am trying to help here.

When you start talking about $30.00 with $10.00 S&H, those wreaths better knock my socks off.  Three 4th of July and two summer wreaths just aren't cutting it.

Where is your

Graduation wreath

Engagement wreath

Birthday wreath

Summer Solstice wreath

Wedding wreath

50th (black) birthday wreath

Baby shower wreath

Anniversary wreath

And the list goes on and on and on.

Here is a link to some wacky holidays, and there is a bunch of them:

http://www.holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/

If I were paying $40.00 for a wreath, I want to see "things" attached to them.  For example, For a Baby shower wreath, I want to see binkies and bottles and washcloths.... Heck I would gladly pay $50 to $100 for a lovely wreath that I could bring to a baby shower that would be my gift for new mom that would give her some great "starter" items.

You may have to start slow in adding each of these themed wreaths to your repertoire (I think I can use this word here) because it may get quite costly to create the first one because you have to purchase all the supplies for the initial one and spares for the future ones.

This is obviously my opinion, but why sell something buyers can get for 10 bucks from China when you can sell something spectacular.  YMMV

BTW, don't be afraid to expand your business to multiple venues... Some are more conducive and appreciative of "handmade" items.

Re: Why Am I Not Making Sales?

Have to disagree about wreaths being seasonal items.  Maybe it's an area thing, but where I live we see lots of wreaths on doors all through the year, Easter, just springtime, 4th, St. Patrick's, autumn.  There is a rather upscale neighborhood that I drive through to get to a store that I like and I think about 7 out 10 doors there have wreaths all year round.  A gated community in my area also always has twin wreaths on their gates.

And yes, size is important.  A 16 inch wreath would be lost on some of those majestic doors.

According to the seller, these are 18-inch wreaths, or at least are built on an 18" wire frame, which leads me to think that they're really bigger than that, but without any visual references, it's hard to tell.

The width of a typical standard entrance door (single) is 36", so an 18" wreath could look a bit lost on it... but if it's really just 3" wider than its frame all around, its effective diameter is actually 24" instead, and that makes a big difference visually. It needs to be shown in some kind of context, and having at least one no-nonsense shot with a tape measure would be good as well.

@wonderful_wreaths

I am sorry that I came upon this thread late.  I hope you are still reading the replies and are not feeling too discouraged.  There are some very good suggestions posted.

I am an artisan crafter, too.  It is a tough market here at eBay for handmade items, IMHO.  It took me about a year to establish a following here.

I only have a couple of suggestions for you.  Try putting the word handmade in your title.  There are a lot of buyers out there that are hooked on handmade items.  Millennials and Gen X  are now my biggest spenders at craft fairs.  They like items that aren't seen at big box stores, so if you are able to get away from the traditional wreath ideas and make something unique that may help your sales.

Best of Luck To You

I searched eBay for wreath in Home Decor.

I found over 111,000 active listings and just 7,000 sold items over the last three months.

You have 5 listings priced at $30 which are competing with those 111,000 other listings.

And based on a sold item search, 95% of those 111,000 listings will not sell this month.

And of the ones that do sell, 70% of them are cheaper than yours.

As usual A C  has made some very good suggestions . His point about the name ''wreath '' is spot on especially . Why not think of another more unique name for your creations to put in the title >? It's true when people see the word '' wreath ''  they may believe it's  a season / holiday  thing  and may be missing  seeing your items all together . Also you may want to check out advance sales  in the sold listings  and see what other sellers have sold  theirs for  and when . That may give you a better idea  on pricing . Good luck !  🙂  Tulips

Hi, no need to come back to this thread. Just follow all the positive suggestions to help you get your items into the mainstream. Am sure it takes a lot of work on your part to produce your product. I just wish I could be that creative! Again, hang in there and hopefully go in and revise your items. It shouldn't cost you anything to just revise your title, script, Item Specifics, price, etc. on your current items. Wishing you lots of luck! Hang in there.

Love your post!  Thank-you!

The eBay community has changed so much and it's so sad!

Frankly I'm surprised that I'm not suspended from the boards for mentioning the ". . . ".  The hallway monitors here should stop drinking wine or start -- just not sure which one.

When I was confronted by the 'hall-way" monitors on a previous post, my initial thought was that eBay was afraid -- so afraid of losing a dollar and having to justify their decisions to the stock holders.

Thanks @abfabvintage  . . . for your posts and solutions.

For the OP -- never ever give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  If you do come back, please take the suggestions like a grain of salt and do what is 'right for you and your family'!

So sorry I messed this discussion up and I do pray that you are successful.

My days are numbered here cause' I'm vintage and can't help it.

Seller since 09/20/01 ~~ this is my posting ID.

Thanks I Aint: Well...seems you are still here after all and that is a good thing  lolololol. I can't take it. Am just rolling on the floor. I am probably more Vintage than you! It is Kool-Aid, not Wine lololol. Does anyone sell Kool-Aid anymore? My G, I must be really old lolol. And you did nothing to disrupt the OP's post. Just trying to help.

wonderful wreaths: do as the positive members here have suggested. The new go to phrase is "cross post." As mentioned in another poster's suggestion here up thread. Oh, you can come back if you have any other questions on tweaking your listings. Am sure you will get good feedback. Considering this whole thread, I am about to request we have a Funeral wreath created just for this post lolololol. Just kidding.
