What’s the point?

Why would a seller have Best Offer enabled on $17 item and then not accept an offer of $15? It’s not like I low balled the guy/gal? Just fyi if a seller has Best Offer enabled I will almost always make an offer 10 to 20 percent off asking and most of the time it is accepted. The seller is already letting me know is asking is not the real price. If offer not accepted I will usually still buy it.

Not only did he/she not accept my offer but when I went to buy it outright I find out he/she blocked me. I can see it if I low balled him/her. I’ve never dealt with this clown before.

Re: What’s the point?

Your $15 offer was around 11.8% off

Maybe 10% if the sweet spot

I have some items that I won't take more than 5% off of

Many of their other items had Best Offer. Many similar priced. Never dealt with seller before. I’m not a deadbeat buyer. I don’t return hardly anything.  First time I have been blocked that I aware of.

I'm going to block you RIGHT NOW.

Just kidding @theteamsetguy  -- just kidding.

I do that ON OCCASION.  Very rarely in fact.

But, if someone says something during the offer that leads me to believe that they may be future trouble, I reject the offer and block.

Even something as simple as "will this fit in a 7 inch space?" when I have both a picture of the part with a ruler ... AND the size noted in the description.   That is someone that can't read or pay attention to detail, and in used auto parts detail is important.

I can't afford any more returns.

I'd rather miss a sale, or block a good buyer, than risk ONE return.

Re: What’s the point?

Some sellers do get testy.  I almost never waste time making them.   But as a buyer, I'm supposed to be happy with the few cents off offers sellers send me?

They don't know how to turn off the feature.  If they use best offer regularly it will be the default and has to be manually deactivated.

Sometimes asking just a question gets a buyer blocked...

Re: What’s the point?

The only thing that would make sense is that the seller didn't know "best offer" was turned on. But, that makes no sense if they have it on a lot of their listings and it makes even less sense to not accept your reasonable offer, and yet even 'more' less sense (if that makes sense 😂) to block you.

Some people are just not too smart I suppose! You probably dodged trouble with that seller anyway then.

Re: What’s the point?

I would skip using best offer if all I was willing to do was take $1 off, or  5% off or whatever. If my margins are that tight, I just skip doing 'best offer' - all that does is annoy people.

Re: What’s the point?

Some people have best offer just on for everything by default and that $2 difference could be 2/3rd of the sellers profit margin on that particular item.

I'd say it depends on if they are a low priced item or higher priced....5% can be a nice discount depending on price.
