Sold an item for 445 dollars PLUS SHIPPING. End of the day I get 386 in my account.... EXPLAIN. I dont understand how I sell something for 445 plus shipping and end up with 386 that is insanely ridiculous. I also ended up paying for shipping pretty much. buyer paid 25 dollars shipping but I had to buy a 20 **bleep** dollar shipping label. at that **bleep** point I might as well just pay for shipping and hell while im at it I should just pay for the **bleep** item im selling too. **bleep** ebay never would I ever... EVER suggest this scam website to anyone. use facebook market place or literally any other sketchy website. chances are youll actually get your money for the item you sold. not to mention this site barley **bleep** works. I find myself refreshing constantly and getting errors so not only is this website SCAM but its a **bleep**ty scam at that. couldve at least put forth some effort for **bleep**s sake.

I walked in to a restaurant tonight.
I ordered a steak dinner. I didn't ask how much.
It was delicious. Nice and tender. Cooked just right.
Then they gave me a bill for $24!
WHAT A SCAM!!!

Buyer paid $25 shipping, but he 'had' to buy a $20 bleep shipping label, which doesn't sound like 'paying for shipping pretty much' it sounds like he even made $5 on the deal - we're not parsing percentages here, just talking about the straight math the OP presented.
Right about the auction houses, though.

Here are the selling fees you agreed to pay when you signed up to sell - that User Agreement - it always pays to read first then sell - better than selling first in total darkness and then ask "what happened?"
There are sites that have zero fees but limited exposure & a hassle to sell on = CL & FB Marketplace
Those "bleep"ed word actually get you no where.

You got paid in one day? You mean a week later right?

BTW It looks like you made 5 bucks on the shipping label or a 12.5% mark-up on your cost.

Makes you miss when DSR's actually mattered right?

@reelworks wrote:He didn't make $5, they took 15% of the shipping, he may have cleared $1.25 at best on shipping, none at all if you put that measly bit toward the fees and FVF he paid.
I do agree they should keep their hands off the shipping, but if you were to sell at a local auction, you would likely pay between 25% and 30% of the final sale price, plus many if not most charge the buyer another 10%-15% buyers premium.
One local auction house will even let bidders buy online or by phone, then they have the option of having items shipped. Most double the shipping charges for larger items and charge storage beyond the day of the auction.
Okay, and for comparisons sake, how much would he pay in fees if he sold it on Zuckerberg's marketplace or on a list made by Craig?
Or what about that website that is actually spending money to advertise on TV? What's it called again? Merci.... I forgot

Facebook - they're developing their own payment system, but I'm not sure if it will be exclusive or not - I think it should be an option.
Craigslist.
Mercari (though a hilarious post on here called it "Mercardi" several times - I was envisioning a funky quasi mobile/web site drunk on Bacardi lol).

The 12.55% eBay fee on 25 bucks give the seller $1.86 net unless they sold an item category has a higher or lower eBay selling fee. Either way he didn't loose $ in shipping and had pocket change to cover handling cost - packing materials etc. A mute point.

made little diff to me they were/are subjective at best

Uh-oh, you mean nobody told you?
You can't be sure about the 386 (maybe) for 180 days, at least. This is ebay and the buyer rules, well, after ebay, that is. A charge-back and you could be in the hole - monetarily.

Your topic has been pretty well covered by the other posters, but, just out of curiosity, did you think there would not be any fee? Or what did you estimate the fee would be?
