I was complaining on another thread I started about how hard it is to sell on eBay no, and now I can't get into it. I tried to list an item and I had to give my bank account number and last numbers of my social security??? NO, dangerous!! I used to use PayPal as that's a fire wall protecting your banking information. This is a dangerous practice for sellers when it's hacked here for ransom . So I backed out of the listing, and there's no place to cancel it or delete it. My name on here is not my legal name on my banking info. I used, YEARS ago, my nickname here. So the final straw was that the names have to match between eBay and your bank account. Just think what a production it'd be to untangle that. So eBay, I'm done. You won. Good luck with your new mess. One wonders what kind of management team you have.

I know it feels good to blame eBay for all this but there are laws & rules for selling venues now.
They have to provide a 1099 for taxes and collect sales tax & submit to states.
You may not like managed payments but it would have been the same required info for Paypal.
eBay is using another payment manager, Adyen, in place of PP. These new requirements on on almost every venue now.
Good Luck to you.

@cheap_but_not_easy I used to sell here when PayPal was a thing, and I can assure you that ebay directly does not manage your payments. They use a 3rd Party payment Processor called Ayden. The only difference is how you get paid and the fees incurred.
As @pikabo-icu stated, state and federal laws require ebay to collect sales tax for states, and there is the tax forms as well that are required. For tax purposes so they can report to the IRS they are going to need a social security number. And of course they will need your banking information to deposit your payment. PayPal did the same thing (with small exceptions)
I am sorry if I came off as rude in any way, I had a long night and this is my detox lol. If you have any other questions we are here to help

And I wonder what kind of person doesn't use their real name here.

A Bridge Too Far
I have had an eBay account for over 25 years, but have not bought or sold any thing for a while. Back then eBay acted more like a listing service, and my payments were received by check from the buyers, and sent by me to the sellers. Then, a number of years ago eBay mandated PayPal usage for everyone (about the same time they bought PayPal company.) Today I thought I would list my antique SWTPC 6800 computer, so Ilogged on for the first time in a while, only to find that they now demand direct, unfettered access to Sellers' bank accounts, and PayPal is no longer even an option. Well, that is definitely not going to happen. Ebay is not a government agency even if they act like one!
