I get that there are bots that view listings. They are not real people. They are computer generated.
But for what purpose?
Who or what generates these bots?
How is your listing used by a bot?
Are they counting something?
Are they then noting your listing on some other site?
How many are there; are they viewing for different reasons?
What? Please explain.
I really hate to seem ignorant, but I don't understand why bots are sifting through our listings.

googlebot is a "bot"
it "crawls" the web and locates/saves/catalogs stuff you are searching for....
(page by page) every time it hits your "page" that is a bot view
that is one example...
there are many search engines that catalog the web
another example might be the websites that "offer ebay items for sale" via there own platform
(they utilize whats called an API to replicate current listings.....
picclick would be an example
the wayback machine is a common bot...they "take a picture" of a web page and offer that page up for review in a timeline format.each time they hit a page that used to be a "view" (erroneous of course)
there are more but there are 3 basic "bots"
