Weird responses and suggestions

What weird responses and suggestions do you get from people when they find out you sell on ebay?

There was this one postal carrier I see sometimes at the docks who found out I sold clothing on ebay. He made it his mission to tell me something I absolutely need to sell. It was a really long winded story about him and his wife on a vegas trip that didn't get to the point until the very end. He passionately told me the shirt he saw was a random t shirt a guy at the blackjack tables was wearing. I mention here what the shirt logo said because it was profanity. I just kept nodding and said "okay thanks" trying to get the heck outta there asap. He still asks me about it from time to time... thinking he just threw me a million dollar idea.

Then there's the ones who need to tell/show me something they just bought online and tell me I should get it for pennies from "the supplier" and make a ton of money. No matter what the item is they bought... it seems to always cost only pennies from the unknown "supplier".

Yep, I get that response with what I posted above about people thinking I sell junk.

Yup. Same here. I’ll get that or the popular “Oh okay… well good for you.” Sometimes I’ll get some charity from people like picking up the check or buying me a drink. And it’s not like I can turn it down because according to them it’s just a nonchalant treat, lol.

I can’t blame people for thinking this because this stereotype can often be very true for some folks. Imagine how much of an uphill battle I had when I was online dating years ago meeting all these girls who are ready to settle down and they find out I sell online out of my house. My wife tells me she’s super glad she didn’t give into that stigma when I told her what I did… she admitted it did concern her a bit though when we first met. Fair enough.

Re: Weird responses and suggestions

I sell at flea markets and online.

Fleabies are so weird.  They'll look up the asking price of something, then use that as their starting price for selling it. Yeah, I've shown so many the completed listings they don't like THOSE prices and will argue with me.  Then I see them with the same carp week after week, wondering why they aren't selling anything.

I frequently get people who want me to sell their items after they try to sell it at fleas.  I've yet to take anyone up on those offers of a 50/50 sale.  I tell them sure, it's 50/50 of the profit.  That's AFTER my per listing price of $2, my packaging price of another $2 and the profit is after ebay fees, postage and the 33% in taxes.  So that $10 item you want to sell?  $1.26 ebay fees, $3.33 in taxes, $2 listing and $2 packaging.  Oh and postage cost $3.50.  You owe me $2.09 for selling your item.

I coupon for my stuff, opps, now ya'll are gonna go right out and try it aren't you?  BAHAHAHA!

Accused of selling junk, etc?  You can thank the general public. So much so, that they even joke about ebay on Big Bang... Remember Raj had his phone break apart?  The gang asked what he was going to do with it and he said, "Sell it on ebay, of course!"  Big laughs!!  Between scammers (Both sides) and policies that defends scammers, no one should want to 'talk about it' anymore.  I think it's too far gone: The Party's Over...  sniff.......

I remember that scene. It was a broken messed up iPod and he did say that with the additional “… sell it on eBay as slightly used.”

My DH was sceptical for years about my online sales.  We had fights - there are not many things I'll fight about - anything to keep the peace, but I also don't care about that many things.  My online sales was one of those things I do care about.  Then he began to see how much I was selling, then got intrigued...then hooked...now he's my thrifting, estate sale buddy and is trying to talk me out of quitting.  He's also proud - bragging 'my wife can sell ANYTHING - snow to Eskimos? You bet!  She's GENIUS.'  I doubt most men would even put up with me and my horrible habits and inventory everywhere (which is OK), so the DH gets a gold star.

Hell is empty. And all the devils are here.
