What is considered vintage for clothing, shoes and household items (dinnerware, bedding for example)?  I have searched on Ebay help but no luck.

Vintage

An item is considered vintage if it is at least 40 years old. If the item is at least 100 years old then it is considered antique.

Vintage

Generally speaking @danlmoe: 20 years is commonly used for marketplaces like eBay, Etsy, Poshmark, etc.

Some don't think 20 years old is "true" vintage, but that's the time period commonly used on venues like this.

"Vintage" means "of a time period", it does not mean "old".

The word "vintage" is meaningless unless you also state WHAT the vintage is, and when you that makes it self-explanatory.

There really is no such thing as a "vintage toy". If it is from the 1930s, it would be a "1930s vintage toy". If it is from the 1990s, it would be a "1990s vintage toy".

The word has been misappropriated and misused so much on eBay it is worthless IMHO.

There are many ways that people use the word Vintage, and technically, as long as you are using it in one of the most commonly used forms, then it is acceptable, because language is adaptive.

I understand that the word Vintage, has had different meanings over time, but today, it means over 20 years old.

Vintage

Despite the history of the word the common accepted definition these days is over 20 years old like a few others have said.

The most commonly accepted use is 20+ years is vintage. 100+ years is antique.

Sadly, many China sellers discovered the drawing power of the word “vintage” and they inappropriately apply it to their new items. This is frustrating to everyone who searches for vintage items, and those who sell true vintage goods.
