Views vs Watchers and when is it time to move?

I feel the need to preface this with this only applies to sellers who sell on more than one site.

When you look at your items, all sites have a number of views and a number of watchers.  At what point (days, a week) do you think it's time to move an item that has double digit views but no watchers?

That's a tough puzzle - if your greatest desire is to get rid of it, there's almost no such thing as moving it too fast (well, setting it on fire would be moving it too fast) - it's the 'too slow' that you want to try to mitigate.  If you're more on the side of 'fair price' and it's not moving on one site, then spreading it around online gets more exposure to more eyes (not everyone shops exclusively here). You might consider spreading it around first, then if that doesn't start moving stuff along, go with discounts.

It's basically a juggling act - I've been selling on multiple platforms since I started selling in 2000 and it's just strange how some things sit some places and fly on others and even after all this time, I don't have a set formula because things are always changing.

I think that answer would depend upon the item that is listed, with the seller taking into account his past experience with similar items on all the sites that he uses.

Tagging on:

Is somebody else under selling you?

I'll have an item that sells well and for a period of time.    Suddenly I'll find a competitor

undercutting my price.

Most people don't pay attention and compare,   but regular buyers (experienced)  will

shop around.

Maybe re-do the listing.    End it and start over.    Maybe the pics don't do it justice.    Maybe there's

something about the listing that keeps a buyer from pulling the trigger.

Well different sites do sell better for different items, so such always has to be considered.

How long do you want to hang on to that item is a factor;

Check your listing for things that may be restricting a purchaser from pulling that buy it trigger... Some times things get done in a way that just puts folks off.

What else should be said..... A lot I am forgetting to say I am sure.

Re: Views vs Watchers and when is it time to move?

No, I'm talking about a general lack of interest.  If twenty two people have viewed your item, but no one likes it or favorites it, then I would guess it's either not getting seen by the right people or the price is too high.   I'm  trying to figure out when the views number is too high compared to the lack of watchers.

That's what is triggering this-I don't want to sell anymore.  I'm trying to balance what seems like a fair price vs getting it gone.

I sell on five sites.  I think two things need to be defined first:  What is 'fair price' and how badly do you want it gone?  It's like the person who offers a 5% discount and wonders why that doesn't work, and the person who offers 25% discount and the item leaves.  Depending on item desirability and your desire to have it leave, 'fair price' may be just donating it and writing it out of inventory on your taxes as one can move items from site to site forever and never get rid of them because of simple lack of interest.  I purge inventory every year that simply doesn't move, but I can't afford to keep stuff around, too, for lack of space (another consideration).

My first advice is to just double list on another generalist site (I can't recommend one - not allowed here) and see if a bigger footprint doesn't help.  If not, then start price cutting.

If 22 folks click on a promoted listing in the eBay forest(pine needles in a haystack....in the scheme of things) and one buyer buys, possibly it was sold by another seller in that same haystack....Price, shipping, condition all could have been factors. Almost impossible to fully understand a buyers rationale for buying. And extremely difficult to know what a seller is doing right vs anything they are doing wrong.

Re: Views vs Watchers and when is it time to move?

I purge inventory too.  And I donate a lot of inventory (eBay Bulq, anyone?), and I'm already dropping prices.  But I have a ton of inventory so I'm just trying to get it the best visibility I can.  And when that doesn't seem to work, then I'm trying to decide if I'm moving it too fast, too slow or what.

Re: Views vs Watchers and when is it time to move?

I've been wondering the same thing.  One item has me stymied. 100 views...11 watchers...BIN with Offers accepted...already lowered it 20% and it was already just a hair lower than the very few similar items that sold. This has been going on for a month or so.

Hard to believe that it's just crap with that many watchers but maybe it is. Maybe it's just like gawking at a car wreck.

Some items move faster then others. Tweak your listing and specification. it helped my old listing in the past few months.
