In a prior thread, the topic came up about lack of information for those wanting to start using variations.
@mcdougle4248 wanted to try using variations, but there was no helpful roadmap, or perhaps those that existed online were outdated, so I said I would start one.
@myjunqueyourtreasure and @mam98031 specifically mentioned in that thread that they both regularly use variations, so I'm putting them on the spot here to ask what pitfalls and workarounds they've dealt with and which listing forms they are using (desktop vs mobile). 
I've taken this endeavor to 80% completion where we can plug in, correct, or rearrange information. It's long winded because there is a lot of territory to cover. I've created new variation listings and have revised an existing variation in order to test and screencapture, but surely I have not hit all the gotchas. 
Hopefully, we could come up with a shorter bullet list for those who already "get it" if they just knew how to start and only needed a few references. Or, for those who just like to follow pictures, perhaps we can add any pictorial steps that are missing.
Anyway, here is a work in progress, still rather rough around the edges, and when we get it smoothed out, we could post it here on the forums where others could more readily find it.

When you go to the Manage Variations page from your Active Listings page (by clicking on the [xx variations] link. It shows you your variation combinations in decreasing order of quantity in stock. What are the checkboxes on the left for? Yea, you can click to check the boxes for each combination, or all of them... but what then? There's no action to choose after that.
Let's see if I can help a little bit. The boxes actually do have bulk edits you can do. Just above them 4 boxes you can select your action for the line items you check off. Enter Price, Enter Quantity, Enter SKU or Delete.
Also in case you were aware, when you pop into one of your variation listings the default sort for you may be in the quantity available. But you can change that if you want. Like many other screens available to sellers on different subjects. Go to the column heading and click on it. Your items will resort.

If you click on the [13 variations] to go to the Manage Variations Page. You get here:
What are those boxes for? I see no action buttons linked to this. Also since you happened to mention the sorting for the Edit Variations page, if you notice the Manage Variations page is always sorted by quantity in stock. There's no way, and never has been a way, to sort the variations in any other order. Clicking the top column tabs do nothing. I've complained about this to CS many times, they all claimed that it functions correctly until I asked them to humor me and walk me thru the process. They all end up dumbfounded because they aren't able to sort, and say they will pass the info along... along to who, I have no idea. Maybe they just told the janitor, because nothing has changed.

I have the same complaint about the Promotions Manager page. It has check boxes but no bulk action capabilities. They really need to add bulk actions in promotions manager, but that's another issue.
To answer your question, there is no current function.
