VAT Tax

Hi,
I have a question about taxes. I wanted to buy a trial batch of goods for 1000 euros from a company from Europe in order to see how well the goods would be sold on ebay. but at the last moment the company asked for a vat number. I do not have my own company and no number. since I sell through ebay and pay through it this same tax of 20%, can I indicate the vat number of ebay itself to buy the goods.

You will probably need to post you question on one of the European eBay boards rather than here since this is the board for the .com (USA) site and we don't have a VAT.
