VARIATION LISTINGS

I have several variation listings but know that they are not properly done. I am selling baseball cards. My problem is that when a seller looks at a particular card in the photo window and then selects the card number from the selection list the card photo that appears in the photo window is not the card that they have selected.  The customer always receives the right card but they want to see that photo that they selected.  In fact often the photo in the window of the card number that they have selected from the list just is blank.  Ebay help is non existent since they do not even answer their phone. I could use some very exacting help from one of you experts. The variation listing system is very confusing to set up and looks like an amateure did it. If you wish to see what my problem is in person just input item# 363122137571.   Thank you, Donn

It sounds like you upload the wrong photos- or in some cases no photos- to the attributes in your listing.

Go here for a tutorial on creating variation listings then come back if you have any questions.

VARIATION LISTINGS

  1. I have read the tutorial and can't see anything wrong. I have uploaded all the photos of each BB card. Each variation has a card number and a player name with it. The cards all are listed with the proper price.  I don't understand this line that I have highlighted in blue:  "This determines which photos buyers see when they select a variation option."  This is the problem I guess. The card photos and the variations are listed in the same order.  Thx.

@micromos- Go in to edit your listing. Then click the edit variations button.

On that page there's a photos section- the listing's main gallery photos.

Below that it will say "Add variation photos" and you have to choose to either "use default photos" or select the attribute option.

You need to select the attribute option. Once you do that you can upload photos for each variation in the proper place.

This listing 363130333393 does not show photos for each variation- you only have the main gallery pics which means you selected "use default photos" on the variations page.

That's not the only problem with that listing. You can't list with prices ranging from $1-$49 in the same variation listing. You can't list different condition cards in the same variation listing. These are policy violations.

Your mystery comic book lots are also a policy violation- mystery boxes aren't allowed.

I have done this as you suggested.

"Below that it will say "Add variation photos" and you have to choose to either "use default photos" or select the attribute option."  It is what I always do.  I do not "use default photos".

Are you uploading photos to each individual variation or just to the main listing? The screenshot you provided is the attributes page- go to the next page to see your photo set up.

Thanks for helping me. I started over and am just loading 12 photos. The first step I do is click the edit button at the Variation section then I click on the edit button again at the Attributes and options you’ve selected section which takes me to Variations.  That is where I add the card players name and condition under the +create your own section. When I am finished with the names, I click on Update variations which takes me to the Add variation photos where my card names and conditions are shown. This is where I am at (see scan). After that I scroll down and input card prices for each. The photos I loaded are not shown just the lead photo for each player photo. I don’t know how to load each card on this page. I then just save and close. Where am I going wrong?

I looked at your variations listing for "1972 TOPPS BASEBALL CARDS NEAR MINT "YOU PICK EM" PRIVATE COLLECTOR SALE"

You have it set up wrong ... the photos anyways.

The photo that shows everything is the "default" photo".

The photo that shows only the item they select is the "variation photo".

In this listing you have all your photos under "default photo".

You need to leave the pic with all the cards in "default photo" and move all the pics of individual cards to "variation photo".

I hope that was helpful.

That is what I don't know how to do. When I download the photos it doesn't give me an option to load the photos under default or to variation. On the first page the only option is "Add/edit variation photos" or the "add photos" which is shown in the large box in the center of the screen.  That is where I download my photos. They then appear in the right hand section of the screen.  I don't select the Add/edit variation photos.

I don't understand the difference between default photos and variation photos. I show the "everything photo" as a header type photo to attract buyers attention. To list all the player photos I just click on large photo box section and mass download all my photos. These are the "default" photos. These are in order by card #.  I then select 'create variations" and then input the card numbers in the same order as the photos are listed. Then I price each card in the same order as the list. I don't understand what I am missing. I am at a loss.

Someone posted a link above with a comprehensive tutorial that includes screenshots. Scroll down to the part titled Variation Photos.

To be honest, you're abusing the variation format so I'm not all that eager to help you. Sellers who abuse variations create problems for those of us who use variations correctly because of the massive amounts of buyer complaints eBay has to hear on the problem listings.

@micromos

Unless they are brand new and in perfect condition, they really should have their own listing.

You need to describe each card and list any defects.

You say they are near mint, but according to the photos, they are not.
