I just sold a laptop by auctioning off, but the highest bidder has yet to pay. On the same day it sold, someone sent me a message asking me to mail it to an address he gave and to mail it on the same day. But the username does not match the username of the highest bidder. Is this a trick?

Yes. If the message did not come from the buyer, this is someone who saw the sale and is trying to trick you into shipping the item to him for free.

You bet. Scammer trying to get your item for free.
Then you are left with an unhappy buyer.

Scam in the making.... wait for payment and mail to the address provided from eBay. Whatever you do don't text!

Scam alert!! Good on you for noticing it quickly. Only sell and handle all transaction elements on eBay's platform. Open an unpaid item once the appropriate amount of days go by with no payment, it will prevent negative FB. Never alter or change the shipping address or you lose your seller protection. Best of luck to you....

You only got ONE of these fake "change of address" scammer messages? It is not uncommon to get more than that from IDs that are NOT your buyer post sale. Good thing you didn't fall for it.
It USED TO BE that ebay would not void your seller protection for INR if you had record in your ebay messages of the request. That is no longer true, and easy to understand why from the seemingly increase in this scam attempt. Do not change the address for any sort of expensive item, even if the message is from your buyer of record and even if they paid. That action may begin a new phase of scam problems by buyers who will subsequently file a claim and get a refund because the item was NOT sent to the address provided with the payment.

It is a scammer trying to get you to change the address to ship to him. These scammers look for expensive items that recently ended and then message the sellers trying to trick them. Good catch in noticing that the user ID is not the same as your buyer's. Many sellers don't notice until it's too late.
Block the ID https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock?
Do NOT reply or engage with them in any way.
